I'd Rather Have Friendships Over A Relationship, Here's Why

Honesty isn't always the best policy, but it is when it comes to love and dating.

I'd Rather Have Friendships Over A Relationship, Here's Why

Relationships. Suck.

Is this statement a little pessimistic? Yes. Is this statement entirely true? No. Is this how many of us feel? Yes.

I don't know what it is about love now days, but I think we're all doing something wrong. Relationships are great and all, and there is usually a bigger purpose behind that failed relationship or case of bad time. However, relationships are STILL taboo.

Social media allows us to showcase any aspect of our lives, but we all know we choose to show the better parts. The parts that make us look cool and fun. Guess what? This is affecting our relationships.

There is so much that is not talked about when it comes to love and dating. Everyone depicts their version of Love Storybut not the story similar to Picture to Burn. (If you're not a Taylor Swift fan I highly suggest clicking on the links to these music videos!)

It's about time that we start being honest with what we're getting ourselves into. IT IS OKAY TO HAVE HIGH STANDARDS. IT IS OKAY TO STICK TO YOUR MORALS, AND EVEN BETTER IT IS OKAY TO WANT TO BE SINGLE. (It feels great to get that off of my chest, you try!!!)

Humans crave attention and love. We crave the intimacies and attention, but we need to quit treating singleness as the coal in the stocking. Relationships are looked at as the high tech toys we find under the tree, when we forget there is usually a lengthy set up procedure and sometimes it can just stop working.

Relationships aren't for everyone despite what we think. That'sand like saying nobody dislikes chocolate when in fact many people do dislike chocolate. Relationships are high maintenance and require an abundance of energy.

Not only do relationships take time and effort, but sometimes things don't work because of timing. No one likes to talk about bad timing. It's assumed that anytime you talk to someone you're just automatically meant to find love in that point of life, but sometimes that's just not the case.

What's worse than all these? Well friend, the elephant in the room happens to be the sexual aspect of the relationship. Most people at our ages want relationships with an added bonus, if ya know what I mean (; However, if you're anything like me that's not up your alley.

We are taught to think that if we don't want a certain thing a relationship that we have to compromise, but that's not the case. You don't compromise if you don't want to compromise. Being in a relationship is your choice, and you make the best decision for YOU.

Some people in life have trust issues, or commitment issues. Others just might be a little unstable. Rushing into something is never okay, but it is okay to take time for yourself if something doesn't seem right. Relationships are talked about so much as a need instead of a want, and that's where we go wrong.

Some of us are like Sam Smith, Too Good At Goodbyes, while some of us are as Bubblyas Colbie Caillat, but at the end of the day we all have to remember that what doesn't kill you makes you stronger.Even if it still is a little "taboo" to others.

Remember, you don't suck. Relationships do and that's something that people will hardly ever do, blame anyone but you.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
