Since its last episode in 2004, the show Friends has managed to continuously steal the hearts of many generations. The show aired for 10 years featuring a friend group thriving and surviving the big city of New York and its challenges. However, all the seasons are available to watch on Netflix and your decision to binge watch the seasons multiple times is in the fate of one click on your computer. Now, what truly made this show great is the experiences the characters face.The authenticity of these characters are relatable to the everyday person and that was probably one of the many factors in the success of this show. Whether it was Joey auditioning for a role in a show, Monica’s cleaning frenzies, or the craziness of Ross and Rachel’s back and forth relationship, you were tuned in each night. Every episode felt like you were in Central Perk sipping on your cup of coffee yelling at Gunther across the shop or busting through the door of the apartment urgently waiting to share your events of the day.
It was scripted so well that you could not help but keep watching and now, many people will even watch the reruns over and over again. Each individual had such a unique personality and one thing for sure is that Ross and Rachel were definitely NOT on a break (Unless you are #TeamRoss than you disagree with that previous statement).
Through all the trials and tribulations one important lesson that was learned from the show was the power of friendship. Despite all the break-ups, divorces, unemployment, and running away from your own wedding, these friends really did have each others backs through all the ups and downs. Also, when things went wrong or did not seem to look bright, there was nothing like watching this group unite to conquer all the troubles. Each viewer saw something in a character that resembled themselves and that is another reason why this show had the ratings it did; although these characters were fictional, we attached our hearts to one of them and felt the pain they did when Ross got off the flight with that one girl as Rachel patiently waited to tell him how she felt. Yet, she could not come to terms with her feelings and let him marry her (Let’s be real though who didn’t Ross marry). Or even the finale when we all said our goodbyes to the beloved apartment that held so many memories, this show made every viewer feel as if they were apart of the cast. These characters etched their names and personalities into the hearts of viewers everywhere and although many shows today try and mimic the indescribable friendship dynamic this show had nothing compares to Friends. In the end, we will always have a little bit of Phoebe’s craziness, Joey’s killer smile, Monica’s organizational skills, Chandler’s dry humor, Ross’s obliviousness, and Rachel’s love for life no matter what generation you come from, you will always have some friends anytime you turn on the TV.
