In the beginning of the year, some older girls mentioned how freshmen just "don't get it." At first, I was really confused. What is "it"? What is there to "get"? Looking back now, I totally understand what they were saying. Coming to college for the first time, you think you know everything. You just graduated high school, moved into your new dorm, made cool friends and even rushed a sorority -- you think you've got it all figured out. You think you're hot shit. But nope. Freshman year is just a taste of what's to come after and the time to learn things the hard way, by making mistakes in order to (hopefully) not repeat them again. Now that the year is almost over, I think I'm starting to get "it" -- getting that I can't take myself to seriously and that no one has everything figured out.
Here are some classic mistakes made by freshmen during their first year of college.
1. Signing up for 8 a.m. classes because you took zero period in high school.

2. Taking way too many classes because you thought this was the year you were finally going to be productive.
3. Being over-dressed for lecture.
4. Worrying about eating alone.
5. Documenting your whole night on Snapchat.
6. Trying to impress people by how much you can drink (when you don't even know your own limits).
7. Bringing a purse to parties.

8. Wearing your favorite shoes to a frat party and expecting them not to get ruined.
9. Still telling stories from high school.

10. Wearing your school ID on a lanyard.
11. Thinking you can pull off using your fake ID at the local drugstore.
12. Getting lost on campus.
13. Buying textbooks from the bookstore.
14. Not having a Venmo or Uber account.
15. Not calling your parents enough.
16. Expecting to still be friends with people you met during Welcome Week.
17. Forgetting to enjoy the first of the four best years of your life.
