Attention: Halloweekend is approaching. For those of you who don't know, here at Rutgers, Halloween is not just a one night even. Halloween (more like Halloweek) is now a week-long series of endless Halloween fun. As you can imagine, four days of Halloween can get pretty wild. So, here is everything you need to know in order to survive your first official Halloweekend here at The Rut.
1. Halloween is FOUR days long. On average, Halloweekend (more like Halloweek) will be four days long. This means roughly four nights of running around on College Avenue freezing in your Risky Business costumes that are only suitable for 80-degree weather. Or just, not suitable at all for that matter.
2. You will need FOUR different costumes. No, you can't get away with wearing the same costume all four days. People will notice.
3. Be original. No one wants to see another group of Audrey Hepburn look-alikes, or frat boys dressed as frat boys. The more creative the costume, the more likes you'll get on the 27 pictures you'll post on Instagram during the week. It's just science.
4. Squad costumes are the best costumes. Rally up the squad and get creative. Nothing says "I've made so many friends first semester" quite like a group of 35 people in the same costume.
5. Uber. If you're one of the poor unfortunate souls who will rely on Rutgers bus system to get you to where the action is this Halloweekend, don't. Assuming your bus makes it to the Student Center without someone vomiting and causing a scene, the commute to and from College Avenue after 10pm on all four nights will be the scariest thing you'll encounter all weekend. Uber, just Uber.
6. Mentally prepare yourself. You are in for an experience unlike any other. You are going to see things you can never un-see and meet people you'll want to forget. But despite all this, Halloweekend at Rutgers is a time to remember, if you can. You'll be taking part in one of the biggest Halloween celebrations any college campus has ever seen. So throw on your mouse ears, download Uber and get ready for the time of your life.
Stay spooky kids.
