Freshman Year As Told By ‘The Nanny’

You can’t tell me Fran Fine doesn’t represent all of us during our first year of college.

Well, it’s almost that time of the year. Summer. Your freshman year of college is coming to an end. It’s actually pretty hard to believe that it’s almost over already. Throughout the eight months that you have been in college, you’ve experienced things you may or may not have expected to. I’m betting your first year of college was a roller-coaster of emotions, some happy and some that made you want to curl up in a ball on your bed and cry, but it’s all part of the college experience, isn’t it?

Although "The Nanny" is a show from the '90s, it’s a classic, and Fran Fine, Mr. Sheffield and the rest of the cast of "The Nanny" may be able to perfectly represent the emotions of freshman year.

1. Having to wake up for an early class.

2. Trying to make new friends.

3. When the fire alarm goes off for the third time this month.

4. Going to the gym to avoid the freshman 15.

5. Getting an A on something you thought you failed.

6. Failing something you thought you got an A on.

7. Getting ready to go out to a party.

8. Gossiping with your roommate.

9. Trying something new at the dining hall.

10. Going home and being able to shower without flip-flops on.

11. Coming back from winter break and begging your parents not to make you stay.

12. When the dining hall actually has something good.

13. When you have nothing due one week...

14. ...and everything is due the next.

15. When your roommate leaves for the weekend.

16. When your friends want to go out but you have work to do.

17. When you overhear your neighbors talking about what they did last night.

18. Trying to pick your classes for next semester, but they’re all full.

19. When you're almost done but then realize you still have finals to take.

20. When you realize how fast the year went by.

21. Then realizing you still have three years left.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
