Frat parties are weird and not a bad weird at all.
A fun weird.
A cool weird.
So basically not "weird" or strange at all, just fun and cool.
But I think I'd receive some skepticism if I opened by saying frat parties are fun and cool...
The stereotypes you hear about fraternities are not true.
I've seen a wide array of different personalities at different frat parties in my first month at college. Yeah everyone is drunk and you see a lot of alarming drug activity but that rarely takes away from the fun at hand. I've met so many nice and considerate frat boys that I've completely changed my mind about what it means to be apart of a fraternity.
A lot of brothers I've met really like to joke with one another. When someone tells a joke, people usually laugh. I guess that's what makes you cool enough to be in a fraternity: how well you can tell a joke. Of course I don't really know how the process goes, but if you think a joke is funny enough to be told out loud, you'll definitely expect some backup laughter from your friends while at a frat.
Frat boys aren't that different from you and me.
I've surprisingly felt the most welcome at fraternities. Not because I'm on the invite list but because everyone is there to have a good time -- and most importantly be safe.
Just like any other human being, frat boys like to cause trouble every now and then but there's honestly some great vibes being shared. The alcohol and questionable drug activity means nothing when it comes to hanging out with your brothers. If anything, fraternities have to overcompensate for the bad reputations people are giving them.
What I'm trying to say is we should honestly stop putting so much ridicule into fraternities. Yes -- on some college campuses certain fraternities have been seen to culture rape and violent drinking behaviors, but I honestly believe an individual's choice should not determine his character (especially after a night of heavy drinking) and especially not determine the reputation of a fraternity as a whole.
Frat boys are just regular students living in a giant house together. What makes them a fraternity is their brotherhood. Even though we should never forget to be safe when going to a frat party (because you never know what kind of trouble you will run into), we should also never forget that more likely than not you're going to run into a frat boy who is no different from you and me.
That's all that's to it, really. Frat parties are just regular parties that get a little weird sometimes.
Just remember to be safe and have fun!
