"The Fox and the Hound" was always one of my favorite movies as a child. I fell in love with its Disney charm the first time that I saw it. I believe that it is one of the best Disney films ever made and that it deserves much more attention than it is given. Sure, "Frozen" is a great movie, but it will never compare to the classic story of two best friends like "The Fox and the Hound."
1. Look at the characters! They are so cute!
I'm a sucker for animals and Disney, so together it makes me want to cuddle their cute, fictional fluff.
2. The story is told with classic Disney animation.
It was released in 1981 and survived a change in animators halfway through the making of the film, as well as a change in animation style, yet it still came out beautiful and coherent in form.
3. The story itself is a beautiful one of friendship and coming of age.
This story is one of the most realistic ones that Disney has told. There is no magic and no miraculous love story. I find it refreshing that the story revolves around a friendship that cannot be. The story is dark and exquisite and it teaches children about what it means to love a friend.
4. It will make you laugh.
5. It will make you cry.
This was the saddest moment of any film ever. I'm about to start ugly crying right now. Look at his sad, confused face!
6. Even the minor characters are rich and vibrant.
I get emotionally connected to even the minor characters. I hate Chief and I love the comedic humor of Dinky and Boomer (the birds) going to crazy lengths just to catch a caterpillar.
7. The movie captures something real about humanity.
Maybe I'm just a sap, but when the credits roll for this movie, I feel both sad and somehow emotionally fulfilled. It's like when you read an amazing book and the ending was not what you wanted, but it was perfect.
Doesn't the film make you wish that you were a child again, with nothing on your mind but the joy that your best friend brings you?
