“Dogs are not our whole life, but they make our lives whole.”-Roger Caras. Have you ever taken the time to think about the life span of our pets? How on average, they live up to about eight years old. Well that is seven years per every one year in doggie years right? Have you ever thought about how you are their owner for their ENTIRE LIFE? And yet, they only get a small portion of yours. In that time span they manage to change your entire world.
Our four legged friends are all unique. From what we decide to name them, to how they rejoice when we return home from work each day. The way they eat, or cuddle is specific to each and every dog. Every interaction is specific to each and every animal, especially our pets. Yes, we can classify certain traits by breed, but there is so much more to them than their general breed tendencies. The way they see your soul, or how they know you need some extra TLC. Or the way they inspire you to take them on a walk; secretly knowing you need the exercise. These animals seem to know us better than we know ourselves sometimes. And the bond we form with them makes the not only our "pets", they become family. And if you are lucky, they become your best friend.
Let’s relate this to a human relationship between best friends. You form that unbreakable bond, where you know everything about each other and can read one another like a book. Your life and their life are one. Now picture that with your pet. You do everything together and even share your dessert! You always have a partner in crime as well as a chest to cry on when you get caught. They adore the ground you walk on, and follow you EVERYWHERE! And as many of us know, we will never go to the bathroom alone again!
I think the most important thing about having your pooch be your best friend is they are always accepting. They do not care what you have done, how many mistakes you make, or even if you didn't give them a treat with breakfast. They are still going to love you UNCONDITIONALLY. In every moment of weakness, they are who you want for comfort. Our pups are the ones who we want by our side each and every night. At the end of the day, without fail our little babies are always right there for us. And the best part is, they don’t even have to think twice about doing so. You are everything to them, and with that you give them your all.
Having an amazing creature like a dog be your best friend is indescribable. The bond and connection are on such a different level that you will only understand what I am saying if you have this with your pride and joy. The love and willingness to sacrifice for one another is so genuine. And when the day comes that they go to doggie heaven, they are never forgotten. Those moments, memories, and feelings are cherished forever. In our hearts they will stay forever.
