Some people go their entire lives without ever feeling like they are at home. They stay on the go and live their life never having a sense of belonging. But a week ago, I found my home.
A year ago I never thought I would even go through sorority recruitment, but now I could not picture it any other way. I went through recruitment expecting to find my home in one certain sorority, but things changed within just 24 hours.
Every sorority at UNG is very different compared to one another. Each has its unique qualities, and they all are amazing. But Delta Phi Epsilon showed me something I had never seen before. DPhiE showed me a side to the sisters I had never seen before, and they showed all of the recruits a piece of themselves. I cried as I fell in love with the sisters and with their philanthropies. The girls strive to show every woman that they are beautiful inside and out. They showed me that I could find my home there. They showed me that even though we all struggle, I would never be alone.
Sunday was the serious day of recruitment where we really had to decide where we wanted our homes to be, but I knew it could not be anywhere but DPhiE. The sisters welcomed me with open arms and showed me that I am more than what most people see. They told me I am a leader, a friend, and more than just my grades.
So Monday came and I opened and accepted my bid from Delta Phi Epsilon. I would have it no other way. All day Monday and throughout the entire week I received texts, emails, and Facebook messages about how they are so glad I am home and I had strangers tell me that if I ever need them that they would be there. They were not saying it because they had to, but they truly meant it.
In just a few short weeks I will officially become a sister of Delta Phi Epsilon ad I will be one for life. I will no longer be alone, I will no longer eat by myself, I will have a family that never ends, I will have bridesmaids at my wedding, I will have 100 plus shoulders to cry on, and I will always have support when I feel as though I cannot go any further.
This all may sound so cliché but it is true, nonetheless. These girls have more heart and passion that I have ever seen. They care about their philanthropies, the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation and ANAD, and they are some of the most genuine women I have ever met.
From now on I will bleed purple and pure gold, I will see unicorns as real people, I will be a Deepher forever, and I will wear my letters with pride.
Even if you are not a DPhiE, you can count on all of us to be there, because we will never forsake a friend. After all, nothing’s sweeter than a Deepher.
