During high school, I didn’t have a lot of true friends. I had more of an acquaintance with people, and I never considered anyone to be my best friend. While this bothered me at times, my mom told me to be patient, that one day I will find my best friend and they will be one of the best things that has ever happened to me! Well, like they say, “Momma knows best!”
My first year of college I had kept walking past this girl’s room in my dorm building and she always said, “Hi,” and asked how I was. For a few weeks we only spoke to each other in passing, but little did I know the huge impact she would have in my life. I am so glad that I had asked her to come to that homecoming football game with me because this would only spark the many adventures yet to come!
I can proudly say, without a doubt that I have found my best friend, Samantha Lynn Himes. I have never gotten to know someone so well in such a short amount of time as I have with Sam! We joke around all the time that we are twins, but truly we are. Our parents just wouldn’t be able to handle us together as sisters! She always knows exactly what I'm thinking and totally understands my wacky sense of humor better than anyone else.
We both have encountered several tough times within this past year, and Sam was usually always the person I picked up the phone to call! Without the bad times, we wouldn’t be able to appreciate all of our laughs and adventures we have! Sam truly has seen me at my worst, which I can’t say for a lot of people. She knows what buttons not to push (even though she may do so on purpose), but she also knows how to make me feel 100 times better if I am being hard on myself.
I too, feel pretty confident in saying that I know Sam’s limits, and that I will always be there for her! Whether it be to check in or have a mental break from the crap in our lives, I will always be there for my best friend. I don’t know how I managed a life of 19 years without this girl by my side. It’s a good feeling to have when you know you have a best friend to go to for anything. I may not be Sam’s best friend, but she is mine and I really do appreciate all she does for me.
I can’t wait to see where we end up years from now! Sam, you’re my person and there is no one else I would rather sing country songs, rate guys as they walk by or even get into things we probably shouldn’t be with other than you. You’re the Manny to me, Sid, and without you the "Ice Age" wouldn’t be possible. Love you!
