Forget The Past Look To The Future

You Are Your Own Shelter From The Storm

Forget The Past Look To The Future

We all dwell on the past. Don’t deny it you do and I do. I can’t help it it's simply who I am. Recently, I’ve been pondering over some things that I wish I could change. For example, meeting someone who not only broke every promise to me but also lied and to those who simply decided to walk away like friends. I have to say glad you’re not here.

This introduction sounds so incredibly harsh but I will make my point don’t worry. We all go through heartache, struggles, and evolve into whom we all aspire to be in life whether we see it right away or not. Believe me, I’m still in that process and it is one of the most exhilarating and beautiful things I have ever witnessed.

It took figuring out my true passion through internships and work, several relationships going south, friendships ending because they were not real friends to finally see the good in it all.

It was last Thursday night when I walked home at 2am from the library in thirty degree weather with the sky so clear that all you could see was stars. I felt at peace with my decisions like many have told me that I would once find.

I took a deep breath in; saw my breath, looked up at the sky while listening to one of my favorite songs Bob Dylan’s Shelter From the Storm. Ironic right? I clearly remember smiling as I kept walking to my car with a weird feeling. I felt at peace not because I was freezing but because I accepted my decisions. I accepted my faults; I accepted that I couldn’t change people nor the past. You can only learn and move forward. And sometimes this ‘Aha’ moment hits you randomly.

My point of this is to say through struggles you end up becoming stronger and more self-aware. Don’t dwell upon things you cannot change. Don’t let someone who didn’t value you nor treat you right stop you from chasing your dreams. Don’t let people who are not there for you walk all over you. You are magnificent and you deserve nothing but the best.

Therefore before I ramble anymore put the chapters in your past behind you, and put them on a shelf and forget about them as the only way for you to move forward is to truly love yourself, surround yourself with those who are there for you, and engulf yourself with complete positivity everyday.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
