Sleeping Isn't Just Good For You —It's A Great Activity, Too

*whispers* "You're the real MVP" too my bed as I wake up in the a.m.

Okay, so this is going to sound silly, but sleeping might be one of my top five favorite activities. Call me lazy, call me a bum, call me whatever you want, but being wrapped up like a little burrito in a blanket on the couch or in my bed, with a book or a movie on, where you doze off is one of the best ways to spend an afternoon when you don't have any obligations, or when it's rainy out and you have nowhere to be.

Sleeping not only is a great activity because it just is, but it's also really good for you. When people tend to not get enough rest, they get cranky and irritable. They become short with people around them and aren't as sociable because they're tired. Being tired isn't fun - for you or anybody that you have to interact with - so why would you choose to do that to yourself?! Make sure you're mentally prepared for every day by getting your rest because it will definitely keep your mood up.

Getting a good solid night's sleep is sometimes hard to do between obligations and working and seeing friends and family and all of the other millions of things that you could do day to day that will take away from it. But, if you commit yourself to get a good night's rest, all of the other areas of your life might take a slight improvement. You'll have more energy to see all of the people in your life who are important to you, and be in a better mood while seeing them as well.

Make sure to also consider a nap whenever you can fit one in. Okay, maybe not while you're at work or hanging out with people (that's not the best time to close your eyes for a few minutes), but hell, if you can fit in a nap that will get you through the rest of your crazy day - take it! Don't question it and get some shut eye for a few minutes. You'll wake up feeling so refreshed that you'll be ready to take on whatever else is thrown at you that day.

So, thank you sleep for putting people in a better mood. Thank you for being the best company on a rainy or lazy day, thank you for being the best on the couch with a blanket wrapped around you. Thank you for being the best when we get you in longer quantities, but also are great in quick snip its. Thank you for being so reliable - we really owe you more attention, because when all is said and done, you're the real MVP.

Parks and Recreation excitedly gathered around a laptop at a table in an office setting.

The library. Club lib. The place every college student goes when they want to try and be a productive member of society. Who better to explain your experience than Parks and Rec?

Taylor Swift in orange dress playing a moss-covered piano on stage with bright lights.

A three-and-a-half-hour runtime. Nine Eras. Eleven outfit changes. Three surprise songs. Zero breaks. One unforgettable evening. In the past century, no other performer has put on an electric performance quite like Taylor Swift, surpassing her fans ‘wildest dreams’. It is the reason supporters keep coming back to her shows each year. Days later, I’m still in awe of the spectacle ‘Miss Americana’ puts on every few days in a new city. And, like one of Taylor’s exes, has me smiling as I reminisce about the memories of the night we spent together.

The transition into adulthood is never easy

Today I started my third week of college at Minnesota State Moorhead. I have survived welcome week, finding my classes on the first day, and being an awkward loner in the dining hall. Even though I have yet to be here for a month, I have already experienced many thoughts and problems that only a new college student can relate to.

"Make sure to get involved when you're in college!"

We've all heard some variation of this phrase, whether it came from parents, other family members, friends, RAs, or college-related articles. And, like many clichés, it's true for the most part. Getting involved during your college years can help you make friends, build your resume, and feel connected to your campus. However, these commitments can get stressful if you're dealing with personal issues, need to work, or aren't sure how to balance classes and everything else going on during the semester.

In college, one of the essential things to have is friends. Yes, textbooks, a laptop, and other school supplies are important but friends are essential. Friends are that support system everybody needs. The more friends you have the better the support system you have. But you also have someone to share experiences with. And don’t settle for just one or two friends because 8 out of 10 times they are busy and you are studying all alone. Or they have other friend groups that do not include you. Don’t settle for just one or two friends; make as many friends as you can. After the first couple of weeks of college, most friend groups are set and you may be without friends.
