Dear my older sister,
Thank you. Thank you for always taking the blame for one of my wrong-doings just because you were the "older" one. Thank you for pulling me aside when school or life got rough, and showing me how to delve into the more important things like books, friendships, and chocolate milk. The memories we have created together will forever be cherished and held in my heart.
I have learned so many things as I grew up watching you turn into an adult. It's easy for me to say that without the countless hours of yelling at each other, laughing with each other, and consoling one another, I would not be this strong today. The amount of lessons you taught me, from dating to working to devoting yourself to God, have left such an impact on my life. You will never quite know just how much you mean to me.
When I was able to walk down the hallway and barge into your room without warning, there were times I wanted to irritate you. I'll never understand the reasoning behind those certain instances, and I'm sorry I did that. But there were also times when chaos would strike and you would be my safe-haven. You let me in with open arms and somehow always knew exactly what to say, despite the arguments we had that day. I never felt alone because you always had my back.
There were days we would dance and sing around the kitchen, and there were days we wouldn't say a word. I think, for us, growing and maturing contributed to our relationship. I mean, it does in any relationship, but I always knew ours was special. The kind of communication where words aren't necessary is rare. I could take one look at you and immediately know something was wrong.
You have paved way in helping me learn from your mistakes, but thank you for also letting me make my own. Your never-ending encouragement is astounding, and I've never met another person who is so gentle. Being able to trust someone the way I trust you is scary, but I'm so grateful you have such a guiding heart for me. I hope one day my kids will have a stout friendship like ours.
Today, only being able to call you is difficult compared to the days when I would get home to find you sitting in the kitchen eating ice cream, asking me how my day was. Your presence affected me more than I ever thought, and I took our time at home for granted. It gets a little lonely around the house, and I'm still not used to the profoundly quiet and empty rooms. We'll each grow in a different way, turn the page at different times, and stray towards our own unique path, but we will always have a home and we will always have one together.
I'm so proud to tell the world about your accomplishments and the person you became. And I'm so lucky to be your little sister and best friend. I love you always.
With all my heart,
your little sister.
