Did you know that you can actually eat your way toward improving your memory and brain function?

There are numerous foods which contain different vitamins and minerals that do just that. Eating right now can help to save your brain function and memory in the future to help prevent the development of memory loss, including diseases such as Parkinson’s and Alzheimer’s disease.

Berries: Fruit can be a healthy and sweet snack, but according to Fitness Magazine there are new studies that have found it can help to increase the speed and function of areas of the brain and the sharpness as well. This is due to the amount of polyphenols in the fruit that creates this improved brain function.

Coffee: The caffeine found in coffee actually has many benefits for the brain. According to nutritionists, coffee has a high level of antioxidants, and drinking a cup of coffee daily has been linked to decreasing your chance of developing Alzheimer’s later in life as much as 67 percent. Coffee activates the central nervous system and can help to stop declining brain function as you begin to get older.

Nuts: Almonds and walnuts contain high levels of Vitamin E. Vitamin E is said to be a key component to ensuring that your brain is not affected by the damage that comes with aging. The U.S. Department of Agriculture has also started on studies that show that these nuts may have the ability to prevent diseases such as Parkinson’s disease in the future as well.

Chocolate: Not only is chocolate a sweet treat that everyone loves but it also has numerous health benefits. Chocolate not only improves your mood and satisfies your cravings but it also helps with your memory and learning abilities. According to Fitness Magazine, cocoa powder contains flavanols, which help to stimulate blood flow to your brain and prevent neurological damage.

Wine: According to recent studies conducted, light to moderate alcohol intake has the ability to help decrease your risk of developing Alzheimer’s in the future by almost one-half.

Avocados: Many nutritionists have stated that avocados are as good for your brain as berries are. Avocados are a fatty fruit, so many people overlook the health benefits that they can provide you. The avocado can help to promote healthy blood flow which can improve the flow of the blood to the brain.

Carrots: Most people know carrots as the vegetable that is good for your eyes, but new studies have found that they are also good for your brain as well. Due to the high level of luteolin that are in carrots they have been found to help reduce inflammation of the brain and memory loss as you get older. Celery and peppers are also foods that are high in luteolin and can also have these beneficial effects.

Spinach: These green, leafy vegetables contain high amounts of Vitamin C and Vitamin E. Both of these vitamins have been found to help improve the brain’s cognitive abilities.

Sunflower Seeds: Sunflower seeds are another food that is a good source of Vitamin E. According to Health Magazine, 37 percent of your recommended daily intake of Vitamin E can come from just one ounce of sunflower seeds.

Whole Grains: Eating a diet rich in whole grains has been shown to decrease your risk of developing cognitive impairments in the future.

Exercise: Research shows that engaging in regular physical activity can be a key component, along with eating right, to keep your memory and brain function in good condition as you get older.
