It may be far in advance, but some people are already making plans for winter and spring break. I mean, we need to do something to reward ourselves for making it through yet another semester. Coming up with plans that will be new and memorable can be quite the challenge. But alas, there are places that will definitely leave a lasting imprint on your mind.
Daytona Beach
There is so much to do in Daytona. You can see the tallest lighthouse in Florida, you can attend the races, and of course what's a trip without a beach? Getting an ocean view hotel room is totally affordable on Ocean Avenue. In fact, there is an even a Groupon out right now for a deal on a hotel in Daytona for 40/ night including that oceanview you need to complete your trip. Not only do you have the beach at your fingertips, but the boardwalk is close by, complete with a ferris wheel, arcade and cruise ship locations. Definitely worth the 2.5 hour drive over to Daytona.
Ichetucknee Springs
The Ichetucknee River is located in the Gainesville area and hosts an amazing tubing experience. It's a two hour ride down the river, on the clearest and most refreshing water in the area. And there are various campgrounds surrounding the area, if you want to stay a couple of days and enjoy the outdoors. Also, all very affordable. Renting a tube is only $5 and the campsite with water and electric and bathrooms and showers is only $20/ night. The park also offers trails to hike on and even a secluded area of the spring for divers to explore an underwater cave.
Key West
Key West is a great destination to partake in water sports and partake Duval Street activities. You can parasail, snorkel, dolphin watch, jet ski, kayak and enjoy a sunset dinner cruise, all in the same day if you want to. It's a lengthy drive from tampa but there are many memories to be made in the keys with the amazing drive over the seven mile bridge.
Sanibel Island
This spot is a cute little island filled with great restaurants and beaches. You can rent bikes and explore the area and take the lighthouse tour. Sanibel provides a relaxing atmosphere that is perfect for after the stress of exams.
Pensacola
Pensacola is ideal during Mardi Gras. They host parades and have nice beaches for picnics and just getting together with friends and family. Attending the parade is fun, but walking in the parade is even better.
The earlier you plan, the more money you'll save! With a busy life, I have to think ahead. But next time you're thinking of going on a road trip to a destination vacation in Florida, you'll know the hottest spots to go.
