Here we go! We are heading into the last month of summer vacation before classes start again. Whether you are a freshmen nervous to start college, or a senior getting ready to begin a new chapter in the real world, we should all take advantage of these next few weeks. Some of us might be scrambling to finish our summer bucket lists, others might be running out of things to do. Here are some tips to make sure you end summer off on the right note and that you are ready for the new school year!
1. Hit the beach.
One of my favorite things to do during the summertime is going to the beach. Make sure you get that summer tan before it no longer is warm enough to be outdoors. Trust me, us Syracuse people know how that feels. Enjoying the sun and relaxing with friends is a great way to get your mind off of other hectic things that are going on. Bring that book that you've been wanting to read all summer to the beach. Wear that swimsuit that you've been dying to wear, especially after all that hard work at the gym. Flaunt that beach body! And of course take some cute pictures!
2. Take a spontaneous road trip.
Road trips are always great during the summer. Pick a destination, or if you are really feeling spontaneous, pick multiple destinations! This is the perfect opportunity to explore places where you have never stepped foot. Driving out of your hometown is a great feeling. Being in a new state or city can be an amazing experience with friends. And for those with a significant other, this is the perfect weekend getaway without distractions.
3. Reunite with friends you haven't seen all summer.
Everyone has different schedules during the summer, which can definitely make it difficult to catch up with all of your friends from home. Make sure plans are made before you are all separated again when school begins, especially for you freshmen who are off to different colleges across the country. If there is one piece of advice that I can give for new college students it is to not be discourage when you and some of your closest friends are off to different schools. Friends from home can always be your friends from home.
4. Go on a date.
Whether it is a guy that you think is attractive, or it is an old fling, summer is the perfect time for dates. There is honestly nothing wrong with girls making the first move. Of course, keep it casual. Who knows, you may learn something that you might not have known beforehand. After all, you only live once.
5. Eat your favorite foods.
If there is something that I always miss while I am in school it is definitely food from home. Home cooked meals are always the best so definitely make your favorite recipe for dinner or of course mom or dad's cooking. And let's not forget hitting up the usual cafes and local restaurants. Go grab your favorite pastry or have lunch at your favorite spot with a friend.
Summer is not going to last forever, so definitely take advantage to just relax and enjoy yourself. You will find yourself packing up your things from home and moving in to your new dorm or apartment. Happy August!
