Recently, it seems that all I see on social media are negative posts about our country, disrespectful comments between individuals with different opinions, and political debates. While everyone is discussing their thoughts on whether Trump looks like a Cheeto or melted orange crayon, no one is talking about Thanksgiving and all we have to be thankful for. If you find that you are having a hard time finding things to be thankful for, let me help you out by telling you 5 things that I am thankful for each and every day.
1. Family
Through thick and thin, you will always have a support system. There is no judgment or animosity to face, but instead, unconditional love, endless hugs, and belly laughs until you’re blue in the face. Be thankful for the family you have been blessed with.
2. Friends
Because who doesn’t want a person to go get Taco Bell with at 1 am? Who do you go to when your mom is miles away, but you need to cry because you feel as if the world is literally crumbling around you? Because who wants to go alone to Walmart for shampoo when you could go with your best friend and wind up leaving with everything but shampoo? Because where else can you find a person who loves dogs, food, and Netflix as much as you? Be thankful for the people who have come into your life.
3. Success
It is important to celebrate your successes. It is ok to talk about all of the wonderful things you have accomplished and feel a sense of pride. Be thankful for the obstacles you have overcame to reach this success.
4. Love
Love is such a beautiful thing. Love knows no boundaries, holds no grudges and judges no act. Love is forgiving and understanding. Love does no harm but brings joy unto others. Love is something to be thankful for today, tomorrow, this month, and always. Be thankful for love because it is magnificent and rare.
5. Faith
Without a doubt, I am beyond thankful for my faith. There is not a problem, question, or prayer that God has left unanswered. For every “why?” or “what now?”, there is an answer. For every hardship, there is an answer. For every uncertainty, there is an answer. Be thankful for faith because without it, what do we have?
Thanksgiving is important to many differently people for many different reasons. Thanksgiving is now a time where families and friends can come together, catch up on their lives, and bond over delicious food. However, due to recent events, I feel that the joyous and happy feeling of Thanksgiving has been sucked out and stuffed somewhere else. During this Thanksgiving (and holiday season), no matter how difficult it may be, try and remember all that we have to be thankful for and for most, that happy and joyous feeling will soon return.
