Five Things That Are Going To Happen In 2016

The year 2015 has come to a close, and a new year is upon us. As we enter 2016, it is sure to be an eventful year. There are several things that are going to happen in the next 12 months, and many of them affect a lot of us around the country, even around the world.

#1: The First Hotel in Space

Russia is planning on launching the first ever hotel in space. Two hundred and fifty miles above Earth, this “Commercial Space Station” can hold seven people. However, this is not aimed for the average tourist wishing to travel to space. Orbital Technologies hasn’t announced how much it will cost to go to the hotel, but it will probably be more than your house.

#2: More Farms Will Be Run by Robots

Agricultural robots are becoming more and more popular for farms. They have been in experimental stages for decades but in 2016 they are expected to be ready and cheap enough for mainstream use.

#3: Mosquito and Other Insect Overpopulation

It’s no secret that last year was one of the warmest years in history for New England; Christmas day was a record breaking 68 degrees! However, this warm weather is going to cause some other noticeable changes in 2016, especially for insect populations. According to a CNN article, the breeding season was extended in 2015, which will result in much higher counts of mosquitos this year, and wade caution to the potential for diseases carried by insects.

#4: The Summer Olympics

The Olympics are back this year and will be hosted by Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. This is the first time the event will be hosted in South America and it begins Aug. 5. The Olympics is a great event which unites many countries in healthy competition despite their differences in politics and world
views.

#5: The 2016 Presidential Election

This is the year we get a new President of the United States. It’s nearly impossible to go a day without hearing about the presidential candidates, and the election is just around the corner. Now is the time to really decide who you want to vote for, because your vote makes a difference.


2016 is sure to be an eventful year around the world with everything we know will happen and many surprises to come!
