2015 has been an interesting year in pop culture. In these past ten months, one star in particular has made a rather huge impact. More than she ever has before in her twenty year career in the entertainment industry. That woman is Rose McGowan. Many of you may be asking yourselves, who is she? Well, let me introduce you.
- She’s an amazing actress. Ever since she made her official debut in 1995’s "The Doom Generation," McGowan has dazzled us on the big screen and especially on the small screen in the hit WB contemporary classic Charmed. In the latter, she played the role of a witch named Paige Matthews in the shows last five seasons. It’s arguably her most memorable role, along with her parts in Scream, Jawbreaker and Grindhouse. Many of her roles are gravely underrated, but she’s a great actress nonetheless.
- She knows how to direct. Earlier this year, Rose McGowan made her directorial debut with a short film titled “Dawn.” In this short film, a sheltered teenager longs for someone or something to break her free from the ties that bind her. It’s a visual treat that leaves you asking many questions. Many, including myself, were very surprised with how it turned out. Will there be more directorial projects in her future? I certainly hope so!
- She’s a pretty awesome philanthropist. One of the most redeeming qualities about Rose, both in her professional and personal life, is her philanthropic nature. McGowan is known as an activist for Boston Terriers. She has two, named Bug and Fester, and has personally donated to various Boston rescues. She absolutely loves animals! It’s never a bad thing to have a soft spot for man’s best friend.
- She supports LGBT and Feminist causes. Even in the beginning of her career, McGowan was not at all shy about standing up for what she believed in. She openly and unabashedly aligns herself with various different pro-LGBT causes, including NOH8 and the campaign against Proposition 8. In the past year, she’s made many statements regarding how women are treated in the entertainment industry, even calling out Adam Sandler on his bullshit. Get it, Rose.
- She knows how to make music. Nothing on this list is meant to be in any particular order, but this is definitely the most recent example as to why she’s so cool. About a week ago, McGowan surprise-released her debut single “RM486,” along with a stunning music video to accompany it. She’s always dabbled in music, that’s not completely foreign to her, but she’s never completely launched herself into it. She even made a cameo in Charli XCX’s music video for “Break the Rules.” Cool, Rose. Cool indeed.
I really hope you guys see Rose McGowan for the totally awesome entertainer she is and always has been! To buy Rose McGowan’s debut single, “RM486,” click here.
