5 Easy Steps To Help You Keep Your Life Together

The start of the semester can sometimes be the most crucial part for a successful term. Getting yourself prepared, organized, and motivated before your classes really get going can make a world of difference. The less stress you have going on throughout the semester, the better you can enjoy the fun parts of college! No one wants to be going out to the bar with their friends only to have the night ruined by constantly stressing over your game plan for the upcoming exam.

Coming from someone who has been dealing with anxiety most of her college career, I have worked hard (through many trials and errors) to find the perfect formula for a successful, stress-free semester.

Start the Day Right

The way you wake up can have a huge impact on your mindset for the day. Do something each morning to guarantee you leave for classes ready to face anything that life wants to throw at you. Have your alarm clock set to play one of your favorite songs. Read a motivational or empowering quote. Watch a funny YouTube video. Whatever makes YOU feel good, do it.

Deep Breaths

When you get overwhelmed the last thing you want to do is to just dive into everything while you're frazzled. Give yourself some five minutes to just breathe and put your thoughts together. That doesn’t mean to get on your phone to see who liked your profile picture or play a game on your phone. Put everything down and allow yourself time to clear all the clutter inside your mind and decompress a little.

Make a Study Schedule

This may be the most repeated tip that you will ever read. But it does help! Sit yourself down at the beginning of each week and go over any and all projects, tests, assignments and readings that need to be done that week. Prioritize each task, know which ones you can stomp out in fifteen minutes and which ones will require you to bunker down in the library for a day. When it’s time to start it all you can give your undivided attention to each task!

Treat Yourself

Passed an exam? Buy yourself that thing you’ve been wanting for the past few months. Finished your essay two days ahead of schedule? Enjoy some drinks with friends.

Getting stuff done feels way better when you can get something for doing it. Whether that treat is buying some froyo or going out for the night is entirely up to you!

Be BFFLs With Your Teachers

I'm not asking to go out of your way each day and take your teacher's coffee order for them, but know that your professors are there to help. I know sometimes it can be a little intimidating to walk in during those open-office hour sessions, but regularly going in to see your professor when you have any questions can only help you. If a professor notices you taking interest in the class they may end up giving you that hour extension on your final paper.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.

Top 10 Reasons My School Rocks!

Why I Chose a Small School Over a Big University.

I was asked so many times why I wanted to go to a small school when a big university is so much better. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure a big university is great but I absolutely love going to a small school. I know that I miss out on big sporting events and having people actually know where it is. I can't even count how many times I've been asked where it is and I know they won't know so I just say "somewhere in the middle of Wisconsin." But, I get to know most people at my school and I know my professors very well. Not to mention, being able to walk to the other side of campus in 5 minutes at a casual walking pace. I am so happy I made the decision to go to school where I did. I love my school and these are just a few reasons why.
