5 '80s Characters That Raised Our Expectations Of Guys

Times have changes and so have people, but those of us that watch 80's movies hold hope for a guy with not only the looks but the personality and old-school mannerisms.

1. Jake Ryan

Jake Ryan from the movie "Sixteen Candles," he is perfect. Regardless of his wealth, popularity, and looks, he wants to be with Samantha, the sophomore- who seems to be invisible to everyone, but him. Just picture the scene when she's walking outside of her sister's wedding and he's leaned against his car waiting for her.

2. Lloyd Dobler

Lloyd Dobler from the movie "Say Anything" is an average person, taking the chance and asking the class valedictorian, Diane Court, on a date. When they break up due to her father's disapproval and her leaving for college soon, he fights for her, and in my favorite scene, he stands outside her window holding a boombox playing "In Your Eyes."

3. Ronald Miller

Ronald Miller from the movie "Can't Buy Me Love," well before and after he gives into his fake identity of being Cindy's Mancini's boyfriend. He was so in love with Cindy that he gave up the money he planned to buy an expensive telescope with in order to help her replace her mom's suede dress she ruined at a party. He taught her that looks are not always important, not to be materialistic, and relationships should be fun. My favorite scene is when Cindy accepts that Ronald realizes he needs to be true to himself and takes him back *Cue riding off into the sunset on a lawn mower*

4. Zack Mayo

Zack Mayo from the movie "An Officer and a Gentleman" is enrolled in the Navy Aviation School and meets Paula, who is to keep him company temporarily until graduation. After he graduates, he swallows his pride and accepts the fact that he is in love with her and asks her to come with him and travel.

5. Randy

Randy from "Valley Girl" is a punk rock guy from the city who meets Julie, a wealthy girl from the Valley at a party he snuck into. Although they are from two different social classes, they look past their shallow friends trying to sabotage their relationship because they are in love.

In the end, guys, remember that us girls have expectations from these movies and would love for a guy to take a chance on asking us out, or go out of their way for us. We want a fun, stress-free relationship where the opinions of other does not matter. Most importantly, when times get tough, swallow your pride and fight for us.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
