Water, in every single continent, is made up of the same molecules. Everywhere you go, the substance will always be the same. Substance stays the same, but the thing that changes everything is perspective. Your water bottle sitting in the back of your car is someone's dying wish. This obviously is not a lighthearted topic, but it is to help people see the realization of how much we take for granted that others struggle to find so they can survive.
Yes, we are selfish, but it is because we are surrounded in a world of supply, in some places. It is a mistake we all make because we have access to whatever we want, whenever we want. We have access to essentials we need and can work our way toward getting what we want. We have opportunity where in some places that term is completely foreign.
1. We have so much water...we swim in it.
2."Ugh this place doesn't have wifi!"
3. The struggle when you can't find something to wear...in your closet full of clothes.
4. When you don't know what to eat...because there are so many options.
5. Life is over when you finish your Netflix show.
Imagine living without Netflix, Instagram, texting, shopping, endless food chains, showering, etc. This is someone's everyday normal life. It is hard to believe, but it is true. I have witnessed and went on a missions trip to a third world country. The greatest thing about seeing this, is that the people we call "less fortunate" are the happiest people I have ever met. The kind of clothes they wear doesn't matter, neither appearance nor any materials. Our problems seem so small compared to the real life struggles people face every day.
So take a step back. Be grateful. On the bad days, be happy. There are people out there less fortunate and would love to deal with the problems you have. Bad day at work? At least you have a job to go to. Traffic sucks? At least you have a way of transportation. Messy house? Be thankful for the roof over your head. Maybe you got a flat tire or dealing with a horrible situation.
The point of this is not to make you feel bad, but to remind you to stay humble. Be kind, understanding and give when you can. This article is not to belittle your problems, but give you a different perspective. Take it in and use it to bring change, even if it's the small things.
