Spring break: the time when college students get to travel with their friends and de-stress from the long and painful spring semester. It is a time when college students get to relax and don't have to worry about waking up early, going to class, doing homework 24/7, or any other stresses caused by being in school. It is a time that college students look forward to because it marks the halfway point of the semester. It is a very sacred time for college students.
In past years, I have gone to Disneyland with my fraternity brothers, I have gone camping with my best friends, and now I get to go to Hawaii. Every year it has been a very different experience, with different people on different adventures. I am excited that this spring break I am able to go to Hawaii with my university.
Last year I wanted to go, but due to popular demand, the tickets sold out in less than 5 minutes. This year, I managed to get my hands on a ticket in September, and ever since then I have been counting down the months, the weeks, the days, the hours. Now the time has finally arrived. I am writing this as I am sitting in the San Francisco Airport at 5:30 am, running on less than 5 hours of sleep in the past two days-- but man is this trip worth it!
Going to Hawaii has been a dream of mine since I was in elementary school, but it has been a place that I only thought I could dream of visiting. So when the opportunity arose to go to Hawaii, I took that opportunity as fast as I could. Even now, I cannot believe that I am actually going to Hawaii. I have heard so many great things and I am excited to be involved with everything I can. The excursions to do, the places to see, and the food I can get to try will all be an experience like no other.
I hope to describe a few of the things I am doing in Hawaii so that I can share my own unique experience in this new and exciting place. For example, today we all woke up at 3 am but we lost an hour of sleep tonight because of the time change. Then, after riding on a freezing bus for at least 2 hours, when we finally arrived at SFO we had to check-in and go through TSA. Personally, going through TSA is one of the most annoying things to do when flying. Removing my shoes, taking everything out of my pockets, placing my laptop in a separate container, all the small, little details... it annoys me. Yet I can't argue against it since it is for the safety of all people who are flying. It bothers me yet, strangely enough, it gives me a sense of safety.
Waiting at the airport for two hours is like an eternity. The food is very expensive but there is no other option. As crazy as this trip has been so far, I am glad I at least have my friends, both old and new, to share this experience with. Day one is just starting; I can't wait to see what the rest of the week will be like.
