The First Semester Of Senior Year, 'Gilmore Girls' Style

Eyes On Screen

Now that Thanksgiving break is over (cue the tears), fall semester is in its final stretch. Whether we like it or not, we're barreling down towards finals at breakneck speed. Given that this is my senior year, it's my last first semester, and I'm a little emotional about it.

Another thing I'm emotional about? (I say that like I'm not emotional about a lot of things.)

Gilmore Girls: A Year In The Life.

Oh yes. The freakin' Gilmore Girls revival. After my extended period of mourning when I finally finished tearing through the original seven seasons on Netflix, I've been waiting patiently--and sometimes not-so-patiently, if we're being honest--since the reboot was first announced. Devouring intel from Entertainment Weekly articles and behind-the-scenes cast photos all the while, and now it's finally here! I'll be sure to give an in-depth review when I've finally finished binging it, but for now, I can simply honor the beloved series by giving a recap of the fall semester of senior year--Gilmore style.

1. When you move back in after summer is over, and get to see all of your friends again.

Thank god my friends are only one flight of stairs away instead of two hours away.

2. When classes start back up and you have to face reality.

Can't we all just hang out here, friends and campus setting, without the classes? Can we do that??

3. When your professors hand out 10-page syllabuses on the first day.

Welcome to 300-level courses.

4. When the first exam comes around.

"You would know if you read the chapter!"

Well, shoot. You'd think my memory retention would be better by senior year. Guess not.

5. And then when you get a 10-page paper, another exam, and a presentation due all in one week.

I don't, really, but I really hate it at this very second right now.

6. But you decide to procrastinate and watch Netflix all day instead.

And yet, here I am, stressing myself out even more.

7. When the new-year energy wears off and you desperately need coffee to survive.

The only kind of double fisting I'm interested in.

8. Then, Thanksgiving break finally arrives, right before your sanity completely disappears.

No sight sweeter than seeing campus recede in your rearview mirror! Here I come, turkey!

9. But break isn't nearly long enough, and you're back at school before you know it.

I just wanna be back in my bed with Netflix and a plate full of leftovers.

10. And the weeks after Thanksgiving break is nothing but psychotic, nonstop finals prep.

Thus begins the fun game, Which Happens First: My Mental Breakdown Or The End Of The Semester?

11. But then you realize that finals means the semester ending, and your last year of college being halfway over...and suddenly you don't want to leave at all.

At the end of the day, stressful or not, I love college....and I'm really sad it's ending.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
