To My First Love

Thank you for the good, the bad, and the ugly.

To My First Love
Sandra Speer

It's crazy to think about how much time has passed since we were together. We are in completely different places than we ever pictured during our relationship. However, that's a good thing. I'm glad we both found the path we're supposed to be on, even if they are separate.

Thank you for being my best friend throughout the duration of our time together. I can't think of a person who listened to my high school gossip more than you did. You always had open ears and open arms when I needed them the most, it meant the world to me. I knew you were always a call away if you weren't already two feet away from me.

Thank you for the little things. A surprise smoothie and snack always made my day, and I appreciate that you came to my sporting events and concerts. I know you hated taking pictures and getting dressed up for dances, but you did it because it made me happy. Most of all thank you for making every day together an adventure. Big or little they were all special.

We had so many adventures that I am thankful for. From family vacations to late night drives singing our favorite songs, you created some of my favorite memories. The best part was you didn't know you were making such a big impression, you were just trying to make me smile. I wish I had appreciated the small moments when they were occurring, but know that I treasure them now.

However, our relationship was like a fire, one that burned out. Behind all of the wonderful times were fights, arguments, and disagreements. We were young, stubborn, and naive about many choices were making. Those three things led us down a path of disaster and led to our breakup. No one was lying when they said the first heartbreak is the worst, but looking back I am grateful for it.

Our breakup was messy and full of hurtful things towards each other. However, our relationship and more so our breakup taught me how to be a better lover and leaver. I gave love a new perspective and found the strength to leave people when they began to hinder me. I am thankful for every moment with you, beginning to end. You are apart of who I am today, and who I will be for the rest of my life. Know that I am always here for you, no matter the time or distance. I wish you nothing but the best, take care, Dear.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.

Top 10 Reasons My School Rocks!

Why I Chose a Small School Over a Big University.

I was asked so many times why I wanted to go to a small school when a big university is so much better. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure a big university is great but I absolutely love going to a small school. I know that I miss out on big sporting events and having people actually know where it is. I can't even count how many times I've been asked where it is and I know they won't know so I just say "somewhere in the middle of Wisconsin." But, I get to know most people at my school and I know my professors very well. Not to mention, being able to walk to the other side of campus in 5 minutes at a casual walking pace. I am so happy I made the decision to go to school where I did. I love my school and these are just a few reasons why.
