Everyone is at least a little bit nervous for their first day of classes, and if you say otherwise, you're probably lying to yourself. The dreaded "first day jitters" are definitely an inescapable feeling, especially if you're starting new classes on a new campus. It's okay though! It happens to the best of us. No one wants to be THAT kid who's in the wrong classroom at the right time or the right classroom at the wrong time, which someone actually did on my first day here at the University of Tampa. It's only somewhat funny if it's someone else doing it, right?
Most students, especially freshman, are just simply scared of being embarrassed on their first day. Everything is kind of hitting everyone like a ton of bricks since most freshman are far away from home or not used to being on their own. Although this is my first year living on campus, I am fairly educated on the whole college process. I've been taking courses since my sophomore year of high school, but nothing really compares to the experience of living on campus and attending classes.
So you step into class, find your seat, and wait for the professor to walk in and begin. You're sweating bullets because you don't want to have a bad professor or you forgot to turn the lights off in your dorm or some other reason that's just adding to the stress you're already experiencing. Your professor walks in, takes roll, and class starts. In an hour or so, the class is over and you feel like a huge weight has been lifted off your shoulders. It went FINE. No need to worry, right?
The common stigma with new college students is that your professor will hate everyone, the class will be the hardest thing you've ever taken, or something's gonna go wrong in the first couple of weeks. Yes, all of this (and more) happens, but it's okay. Life happens. Will it happen in your four years of school? Possibly. But that doesn't mean you should constantly be worried. Enjoy your college experience. Have the time of your life. The most important tip I can give you - do not stress too much. Not only will it be detrimental to your college experience, it causes wrinkles and acne and I don't think anyone wants that.
