Bars can be a blast, especially when you just want a night out. But on a first date? Between the hard-to-hear voices and loud music, it’s near impossible to get to know each other. So, instead, here are 20 first date ideas that are both fun and conversation-conducive!

1. Hit up a park for a picnic

What’s better than a picnic lunch and a great view? Enjoy the outdoors and some fresh air for a romantic and fun first date!

2. Stay in and cook dinner together

If you (or your date) like to cook, this would be a wonderful first date! You get to show off your skills, and you get to have some quality time together. It’s the perfect atmosphere for romance and conversation!

3. Go dancing

Okay, so maybe you’ll still have to deal with the loud music, but there’s no better way to get comfortable with someone than to go dancing! A swing dancing or line dancing club can be just as much fun as a bar.

4. See a comedy show

Many comedy clubs are super laid-back, which is perfect for a first date! Find a table and bond with each other over some laughs.

5. Go on a lunch date

Only have an hour? Go grab lunch! It’s a fun way to enjoy each other’s company while still switching it up a bit.

6. Find a museum or gallery

If you and/or your date likes art, a gallery would be a great place to go. You can start to understand and enjoy each other’s interests and begin getting to know each other!

7. Go on a hike

As a person who loves the outdoors, I always love going on a nice (easy) hike. It’s a great way to get to know each other while enjoying nature.

8. Do something artsy

Photography, painting, or drawing are all great ways to get acquainted. Whether you go to a park and draw or attend an art class together, being artistic is a great place to start breaking the ice.

9. Watch a sporting event

Favorite team in town? Love a particular sport? Going to a game is an awesome way to break the tension and anxiousness of a first date and start having fun. Just grab a date and a jersey!

10. Pet some puppies!

Okay, I know this one sounds strange. But honestly, one of my favorite dates I’ve been on has been at a pet store playing with the puppies and cats! Does it get any better?

11. Find a Saturday Market

Good food in a nice park! A local Saturday market (or any other kind of market or festival) is always a fun choice for a first date. It allows for lots of conversation, but doesn’t get boring!

12. Play games at an arcade

Retro-style video games are a great way to start a conversation. Find a cool arcade and play some games!

13. Go stargazing

Relaxing, fun, and romantic: the perfect trio! If you have a car, find a place where you can sit out and watch the beautiful night sky.

14. Find a trivia night

Lots of restaurants nowadays have trivia nights that are open to anyone! Grab some food and test your knowledge with your date.

These are just a couple of the hundreds of possibilities for fun date ideas that don't include going to a bar (or anywhere else you can't talk!). Next time you are planning a date, these are awesome for getting to know each other. Happy dating!

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
