A First And Forever Friend

You're my true friend who's here till the end.

After meeting when we were 4 years old, we knew we were going to be forever friends. Right from the start we were inseparable and knew God made us friends because no mother could handle us as sisters. Not everyone gets to live right across the street from their best friend either; I think that’s pretty cool. I like to think we’re pretty lucky, considering this doesn’t always happen to everyone. Some people never find their forever friend, and for some, their first friend isn’t always there in the end. I’m so lucky to have found a first and forever friend, and I would like to thank you for that.

Thank you for being my first friend.

I barely had an idea as to what a friend was until we met, but pretty soon after we were doing almost everything together. I remember the days I would come over and we would have a fake picnic in your backyard or pretend we were artists able to make masterpieces with paint. All of the snow days we didn’t have so after school we would make mini sled hills in front of one of our houses and then make snow cones with Vitamin Water or Coca-Cola. Through all of our fake Hannah Montana, Hilary Duff, and Cheetah Girls performances we stuck together. Now from what I remember, these performances usually involved us getting into a fight over who got to be which character, but in the end, we always figured it out and found a way to put on the best fake concert money could buy.

Thank you for letting me be a part of your life.

You could have chosen anyone, but you chose me. We never went to the same school, but that never tore us apart. In fact, at times I feel like that may have made us even closer because we weren't able to see each other every day like when we were young. The days we were able to find time to hang out, get food, go to the movies, or do anything were the days we were able to catch up after not seeing or talking for a while. These are the days I love about our friendship because they prove you don't have to constantly be in contact with your best friend in order for them to still be there. I have had the privilege to see you grow into someone so strong and beautiful. I could not be prouder of the person you have become, and I am so grateful that I have been able to be a part of your life for this long.

Thank you for still being here.

So many times we got into fights about nothing at all and we thought they were going to tear us apart. I mean, when you’re 10 years old, fighting over who gets to be Miley or Lily from Hannah Montana is kind of a big deal. I know I can be stubborn and a brat, but not once did you ever give up on me or our friendship. You’ve never judged me for being my crazy, outgoing self. You’ve always pushed me to be who I am, and you’ve never tried to make me change into someone I’m not. Since we were 4 years old you have been one of my best friends, and I can honestly say I have no idea where I’d be if you weren’t still here.

It’s just like the Hannah Montana song, “You’re a true friend and you’re here till the end.” This song was our motto when we were young, and I think it’s safe to say we still live by it today, 15 years later. It’s crazy to think it’s been that long since we first met, and even crazier to think we’re both in college across the country from each other. I’m sure a lot of people would be pretty jealous of our friendship if they really knew everything behind our story. This is a friendship I’m proud of and never want to lose, because if I did I would not only be losing my best friend, but also my sister. Thank you for always being there for me, believing in me, and never leaving me behind.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
