Whether it's a poking underwire, spilling out of the cups, or constantly adjusting the straps, nothing is worse than a bra that doesn't fit.
And even though I hate all these little annoyances as much as the next girl, I guess I actually have it pretty easy. After all, when I go bra shopping I never have to worry about my actual chest, the only thing I have in mind is the fit of the bra.
Until recently, I had never considered what it would be like to go bra shopping without the breasts to fill the bra. But thankfully, Nordstrom has considered that- in fact, Nordstrom has had those women in mind for nearly 25 years.
It's called the Breast Prosthesis Program, and if you thought the Nordstrom lingerie department was the best place to be fitted for a bra before, just wait for this.
The program functions due to an amazing team of trained individuals. Nordstrom trains all of their lingerie employees to find the best fits for their customers, but the prosthesis fitters are specially certified to fit women for all intimate apparel following a mastectomy, lumpectomy or other reconstructive breast surgery.
These fittings are done by appointment and are often times emotional roller coasters for the women. These kinds of surgeries leave patients feeling like something is missing, whether it's their womanhood, their beauty, or even their ability to provide for children.
Nordstrom's fitters go into every prosthesis fitting with these things in mind, certainly not an easy task. But they do it so that the women who have gone through so much can reclaim something of themselves. The clients often come out of the session not only with a new bra, but also with incredible confidence.
And believe it or not, the program is even covered by some insurance companies! I don't know about you, but not having to worry about the cost of something that is going to help me reclaim my femininity sounds amazing to me.
And though the Breast Prosthesis Program is leagues ahead of other lingerie departments, Nordstrom doesn't stop there.
Transgender women have an added level of anxiety while shopping for intimates that most of us don't. Across the internet, trans women share their knowledge for fitting rooms that are trans-friendly and Nordstrom has come up countless times as a comforting, helpful, and most importantly non-discriminatory place to go.
After top surgery, finding a bra that fits can be extremely difficult and emotionally draining. But that's where Nordstrom's trained fitters come in clutch and make every woman feel beautiful in their ever changing bodies.
Nordstrom created a video for the Breast Prosthesis Program in 2012 and it is definitely worth watching.
50 points to Nordstrom for changing women's lives one bra at a time.
