Watermelons, watermelons, watermelons; the love of my life, and the best fruit to have during the summers. All the summers I have lived through, at least a watermelon a week is finished. Honestly, I just have this weird obsession with watermelons; this sort of ability to eat as much watermelon as I want or could and still want more and more after the last slice.
The fruit has been a special part of my life because of the endless amounts of events I have gone to, the fruit is a constant reminder, and it helps that I am especially good at picking out the best kind.
When you first choose a watermelon, you have to first decide the size of watermelon that you want. From small, medium, or large, and then there is a pink watermelon or a yellow watermelon. Whatever you choose, size matters because you wouldn't want to waste the watermelon in the end.
The second choice is to look at the small holes on each side of the watermelon; a larger loop or circle on the watermelon means that the watermelon is unripe and you will get a lighter pink watermelon that doesn't have the juice spilling out after each bite. However, a smaller circle, the size of your pink nail is the best size. This watermelon will be dark pink with seeds, and a beautiful layer of juice spilling out after each cut.
The third is to make sure that the watermelon has scratches all over the outside of it. The scratches are from birds, and for some reason animals have better senses than us, so when you follow their senses, then you know the sweetness is real.
The fourth and final step is to hit the watermelon, like a good slap; you have to listen for a "thump thump." This "thump" noise is full and comforting, just like a slice of watermelon would be. Honestly though, this step can be skipped and all that matters is that you eat that watermelon and enjoy it, especially if it's a hot summer day.
