Finding Peace Through Listening

Expression, thoughts, and ideas throughout our generation and finding the balance in it

Finding Peace Through Listening

Growing up in a generation of new ideas where empowerment and equality is key, its hard to have thoughts of your own. Don't get me wrong, we have our own thoughts. We believe what we believe, but I think the hardest part of it is putting your own thoughts out there. We have social media, and amazing platforms like the Odyssey, but the backlash is the part that scares most people. Social media is wonderful! You can talk to strangers states away and become their best friend. You can shares thoughts and ideas and pictures and information in the blink of an eye. But the hard part of it all is that if you aren't posting a video showing your face, and your emotions, then some things can become misunderstood.

We live in a generation where girls and boys and all people are allowed to have such a strong voice, we are finally searching for an end to judgement among each other. But what if your opinions are slightly different? More conservative? Or more liberal? There is nothing wrong with doing what you want. We can all do what we want and what makes us empowered and happy and feel like "us". The back hand of freedom and equality is the freedom to have an opinion.

If you want to be more conservative, go for it! If you are more liberal, go for it! We shouldn't be afraid to put our thoughts and ideas out there. Its how we make change happen. We need to create talk and ideas by being open with our thoughts, and open to others thoughts. We can achieve so much by this. Have a conservative thought but listen to a liberal one. Be liberal but listen to the conservative side. Perfection is equality and finding a balance.

Social media is the perfect place to put your thoughts out there, but its also the perfect place to have people attack you for your thoughts. Instead of attacking or making an assumption, be open to it! Let's REALLY talk to each other. Lets argue, but end the argument in peace. Lets express ourselves! But it's hard to do so when you have to be so careful about what you say. One wrong word, one wrong statement, one wrong un-perfect thought and everything can crash.

Instead of jumping on each other let's listen. If we are about freedom of speech, let's appreciate it! We are all humans from very different backgrounds. Let's help each other to see what we see and at the same time be open when others see as well. Now, obviously some thoughts and ideas aren't exactly the best (I'm looking at you Trump). But let's help each other, not attack. So many friendships, smiles, ideas, actions, and relationships can be made.

Listen, listen, listen, learn, learn, learn, and LOVE, LOVE, LOVE!!

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
