These past few weeks have been a tough one throughout the world. Many of you must have heard of the police brutality, police shootings and terrorist attacks around the world. Now I know my words might not be able to make a big difference today, but I want to make myself heard. I want to share what I see and what I think should be done from here. My intention is not to anger anyone, but with such personal topics, it is bound to happen. Everyone has been affected by these things and emotions are high, but I am going to try to not look at it that way.
I believe that the stem of the recent violence (actually, any violence for that matter) is hate. Hate for others, for themselves, for this world...either way, hate is hate. And it has grown these past few months. But it will not and cannot win.
Like I said, these acts come from people's hate, that leads to more hate, and more hateful acts, which then leads to fear. You can see this fear throughout the nation, throughout the world. No one wins from this. Nobody wins from the actions of extremists. People that have only hate in their hearts. There really isn’t any other explanation for it. It dumbfounds me how people can senselessly kill one another. These are someone’s wives, husbands, sons, daughters, brothers, sisters, mothers and fathers whose lives are changed forever. All of them are taken from this world way too soon. The hurt and pain that we all feel, it’s tearing us apart. And that’s not how we should live.
We are all one. We’re just humans and we all go through the same struggle. We all wish to improve and strive towards a better life. If that’s the case then why don’t we help each other? Why don’t we come together as one civilization and work to improve? We have to put aside things like race versus race, class versus class and religion versus religion. We need to replace hate with love. Because love is the purest of all things, love heals all wounds. Love for one another can work wonders.
I know that all of these sound like cliches, but it's true. If we decide to turn from the love to turn from the hate, to let go of petty, superficial problems then we can actually move forward together. This might not cause any immediate change but it can lead to a better world.
So I challenge you to try to spread some love throughout the world. These can come from simple things: Be kind to your neighbor or a stranger. Try to brighten someone's day, laugh, dance, sing, just don't let the hate win. Spread love and joy around the world.
