I know that life can be hard. Everyone has their own daily struggles they have to push through every day. It's easy to get caught up on the negative things in life.

But here's a list of little things that can brighten your day or make you realize how fortunate you really are.

1. Notice the people you love around you. Your family. Your friends.

If you really take the time to pay attention to them, you'll see that you are extremely loved. Whether it's your mom always calling you to see how you are doing or your friends who know something is instantly wrong without you having to say a thing, they're there. These people in your life may not show you how much they love you in the same way, but just know that they do.

2. Nothing beats scrolling through TV channels trying to find something good to watch and landing on your favorite TV show.

It doesn't even have to be your favorite show right now; it could be that one show you watched a million times when you were in high school. But it brings you a sense of comfort and familiarity by watching it.

3. Going out on a starry night and just taking it all in. You'll feel like this.

In that moment, you realize that you are one human being out of billions. You realize that whatever problems you are going through are nothing compared to the span of the universe. You are here, you are breathing, and you are living on this earth-- and that's pretty unbelievable.

4. Normalcy.

I know that you may think your routine is boring and uninteresting. But it should give you some happiness and comfort in knowing that you have something you can rely on. No matter how crazy and hectic life may get, you can lean on that same schedule or routine to get you through it.

5. Finding money unexpectedly.

Whether finding it in your old purse you haven't opened in 3 years or finding it in your pants pocket from a day ago, it's still that same burst of happiness.

6. Running into people you haven't seen in a long time.

Whether it's your old best friend from middle school or the person you studied with a bunch of times in high school, it's a nice surprise. It's fun to reminisce on those times (even if they weren't your favorite).

7. Taking a look in the mirror.

Do you see that dark freckle on your forehead or the scar on your chin from falling off the bed when you were younger? Or do you notice the little bit of wrinkling forming by your eyes from all of the laughs and smiles you've shared in your life? All of these tiny imperfections are what make you, you. Appreciate them, because they differentiate you from everyone else in this world. They make you unique and no one can take that away from you.

8. Dancing.

You heard me. Put on your favorite song and jam out without a care in the world. Any stress you are having can be minimized with letting yourself have a little bit of fun. Grab a friend and dance it out. Guaranteed happiness right there.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
