Fight the Frustration.
I'm sitting here in the midst of a weekend that didn't start or unfold in the way I had hoped or planned. I'm much more tired, irritable, and overwhelmed than I expected.
Seems an odd way to start off a post right? I thought so too, but then I realized, if you're dealing with something, chances are, someone else is too. As I was walking down the streets of my college town waiting for my brakes on my car to be fixed (probably not a huge help to how I was feeling), I was hit with this simple fact: I could either fight the frustration or give into it. I could choose to find joy somewhere, seriously anywhere, in the midst of my unexpected and unwelcomed events, or I could choose to sulk and look for things to complain about.
It's easy to fall into the trap of giving in. We do it without even realizing how deep we're digging ourselves. One "bad" thing happens to us and we're thrown off course. We take the first punch and we roll with it, almost searching out the little things in our day that we could complain about.
But then at some point, you become aware of your pattern of thinking. You start to realize that maybe your attitude, your life, your heart, whatever it may be, maybe it isn't getting any better because you haven't decided to fight it.
Don't get me wrong, I know we're all bound to have bad moments.
Positive thinking doesn't always equal positive outcomes, but it will get you there a heck of a lot faster than negative thoughts will.
I'm guilty of this just as much, if not more than most people. But one of my friends sent me something a couple of days ago that has stuck with me. She said, "I won't deny it. You're having a bad morning. There's no way around that. But you can't change it. So don't let your bad morning turn into a bad day."
Bad mornings do not have to mean bad days.
Bad days do not have to mean bad weeks.
And momentary frustration does not have to consume you for longer than you let it.
It's not easy, but it's most definitely worth.
Fight the frustration that threatens to steal our joy each day.
