A Few Thank You's to Your "First Prince Charming"

Growing up, girls dream of the day their "Prince Charming" will come into their lives and sweep them off of their feet. But, did you ever think that your Prince Charming was actually there the day you were born. That's right, your daddy will always be your first Prince Charming. Your daddy spends his time trying to be your everyday hero to make sure that the day your "second" Prince Charming comes in and takes over his spot, that you are fully prepared. As my daddy's only girl (and the baby of the family), he has always gone above and beyond to fulfill his duties of dad, Prince Charming, and super hero. My daddy has helped make me into the young lady I am today. He has shown me what to look for in my future husband. But most importantly, he has taught me to keep God first because with him NOTHING is impossible. So here is a list of things you should continuously thank your "first Prince Charming for":

1. Thank you for being the first man that has ever loved me. Daddy, thank you for being the first man that saw my imperfections but continued to love me anyways. You taught me that no one is perfect and you don't have to be. But you also taught me that when you find the perfect person you will love everything about them. Even their imperfections.

2. Thank you for teaching me about Jesus. As if your love for me isn't above the moon and the stars, but you also taught me how to love Jesus because He first loved me. I remember being in 3rd grade at GA camp on the night I got saved. I was so anxious to get home and tell you!! You were the very first person I wanted to share my life changing news with. That's all because you have never failed to teach me about Jesus. You have taught me how to love unconditionally just as Jesus our Lord and Savior loves us unconditionally.

3. Thank you for being such a hard worker. If I have learned anything from you in these 21 years of living, it is a hard work ethic. You have taught me to never give up. When you want something you work hard enough until you get it. I want to strive everyday to be just like you in that aspect.

4. Thank you for being my number one fan. Ok, admit it dad... You hated wearing a tux all four years of high school and walking me down the football field as they announced me as a part of the homecoming court. Honestly, it kinda got old to me too. But, I know that you were proud of me the whole time we were awkwardly walking down the 50 yard line. And, I know, the cheer competitions kind of got old too. But, seeing me so passionate about something that I gave my all to made you smile bigger than I've ever seen you smile! You were always my biggest cheerleader. You rock daddy.

5. Thank you for loving mom the way you do. Honestly, sometimes I feel like y'all are still in the "honeymoon phase" of the relationship. You have loved my mom for 26 years now and the way that you love her is absolutely unreal to me! I pray that my future husband will love me just as much as you love mom. You adore her and everything about her. Thank you for teaching me and showing me true love.

6. Thank you for being my own personal handy man. It is so crazy to me how you know the answer to absolutely everything. I don't think that there is anything in this world that you couldn't fix. You are so smart and I admire you so much for that.

7. Thank you for being my teacher and my listener. You have taught me so many life lessons, as well as math lessons. Still, being a senior in college, I never hesitate to ask you for homework help. You are such a great teacher, but more importantly, you are such a great listener. 95 percent of the time I ramble on and on about things that are completely irrelevant, but it seems to me that no matter what it is, you are always listening.

8. Thank you for getting me prepared to meet my "second Prince Charming". As the years have passed by, I have found myself continuously comparing guys to you, daddy. I have always dreamed of finding a guy that treats me like a princess, teaches me more about Jesus, always loves me like we are still on the "honeymoon", and listens to me the way you listen to me. You have taught me so much in my life and I could never thank you enough. I am so glad that you have taught me to never settle for less than I deserve. Thank you for being my "first Prince Charming", daddy. I love you.

Taylor Swift in orange dress playing a moss-covered piano on stage with bright lights.

A three-and-a-half-hour runtime. Nine Eras. Eleven outfit changes. Three surprise songs. Zero breaks. One unforgettable evening. In the past century, no other performer has put on an electric performance quite like Taylor Swift, surpassing her fans ‘wildest dreams’. It is the reason supporters keep coming back to her shows each year. Days later, I’m still in awe of the spectacle ‘Miss Americana’ puts on every few days in a new city. And, like one of Taylor’s exes, has me smiling as I reminisce about the memories of the night we spent together.

Today I started my third week of college at Minnesota State Moorhead. I have survived welcome week, finding my classes on the first day, and being an awkward loner in the dining hall. Even though I have yet to be here for a month, I have already experienced many thoughts and problems that only a new college student can relate to.

"Make sure to get involved when you're in college!"

We've all heard some variation of this phrase, whether it came from parents, other family members, friends, RAs, or college-related articles. And, like many clichés, it's true for the most part. Getting involved during your college years can help you make friends, build your resume, and feel connected to your campus. However, these commitments can get stressful if you're dealing with personal issues, need to work, or aren't sure how to balance classes and everything else going on during the semester.

In college, one of the essential things to have is friends. Yes, textbooks, a laptop, and other school supplies are important but friends are essential. Friends are that support system everybody needs. The more friends you have the better the support system you have. But you also have someone to share experiences with. And don’t settle for just one or two friends because 8 out of 10 times they are busy and you are studying all alone. Or they have other friend groups that do not include you. Don’t settle for just one or two friends; make as many friends as you can. After the first couple of weeks of college, most friend groups are set and you may be without friends.
