It’s finally December, which means decorations, carols, cold weather, ice-skating, and tree lightings are upon us. But for us college kids, it also means finals: the most dreaded time of the year. Even though no one wants to think about anything other than going home and celebrating holiday traditions, we have two more weeks of studying left before freedom. But don’t give up on holiday spirit just yet! There are plenty of ways to maintain holiday cheer and still ace your finals.
1. Go ice-skating in the new rink on DoG Street.
Exercise is a great stress reliever, too!
2. Order your favorite holiday drink at Aromas.
Peppermint mochas are always a classic.
3. Wear tacky sweaters to class.
Even better if they make noise or light up.
4. Take a walk down DoG Street to see the Christmas decorations.
Don’t forget to visit the Christmas tree and the cider stand!
5. Buy holiday pajamas.
Preferably matching ones with a group of friends.
6. Watch your favorite holiday movie.
"Home Alone," "White Christmas," and "Elf" are highly recommended
7. Go to the Yankee Candle Store and see Santa.
Also pick up some holiday scented candles like Mistletoe and Candy Cane Lane.
8. Put up lights in your dorm room.
Even if no one else sees them, they will still spread holiday cheer.
9. Sing Christmas carols as loud as you can
“The best way to spread Christmas cheer is singing loud for all to hear”
10. Decorate a gingerbread house with friends.
For the icing and gumdrops, if anything.
11. Go to Grand Illumination (Dec. 6)!
Get ready for the holidays by watching fireworks with the whole Williamsburg community.
12. Attend Yule Log and listen to President Reveley read ‘Twas the Night Before Christmas (Dec. 12!)
There is no better way to get in the Holiday spirit than attending this William and Mary tradition!
Don’t let finals disrupt your holiday season this year. Study hard, but remember that there are so many fun things to do in Williamsburg this time of year, even if it is just for a quick study break. Happy holidays and good luck on exams!
