Stop worrying so much, OK? Stop being scared of the unknown, because anything I worried about didn't happen. Other stuff happened, but not what I worried about. The unknown we can't do anything about, and I don't remember any of the moments in my life where I worried. So that's a lot of time I couldn't get back. -Sandra Bullock
Isn't is crazy how quickly we can convince ourselves not to do something because of fear? One second you're thinking about visiting a friend who is out of state and then you are listing the number of things that could go wrong. It's a game we all play, but it's easier to keep
Here are 4 hobbies to keep your mind off of your fears:
1. Journal
How about giving yourself 10 minutes to journal every morning and every night? In the morning make a list of your fears that could possibly happen today and at night put a check next to the fears you overcame. There is a really good chance that all the items you wrote down never happened during the day and it's possible that seeing your fears written in a notebook can remind you to stop making fear a home in your mind.
2. Run
Personally, I love to run, but I know that 90% of people absolutely despise it. Trust me, I understand where you are coming from because running is a mind game. It's all mental. Your brain is sending signals telling you it's too hot, too long and not worth it. Try making a goal of running a mile and then next week try and run two miles. Continue running until three miles and sign up for a 5k. There is nothing more rewarding than seeing a finish line when you thought giving up was an easier path.
3. Make a list of things to do
I just moved to a new city so this is how I am getting to know my surroundings. Follow along on social media sites based in the city you live in or look up the city's website to see what's going on this week. Make a list of events or local businesses you are interested in testing out. Instead of watching Netflix to the point where it asks if you're still watching, get some fresh air and see what your city has to offer. It is also nice to have when someone asks "What can we do tonight?"
4. Daily Affirmations
Fear creeps in when self-doubt is at a high. Confidence is key to making sure you are making the most of this precious life. Daily affirmations could be reading a devotional while your cup of joe is brewing, or even writing five things you're thankful for. It's important to find appreciation even in the smallest ways.
And if you need a good laugh that has to do with daily affirmations, here it is. Jessica's Daily Affirmation
