Being fat is difficult, you’re faced with unnecessary commentary by judgmental people who have absorbed societies beauty ideals and on top of that you have to deal with your own insecurities. Fat women face so many difficulties from being accepted to finding clothes that are fashionable that it is sometimes difficult to get to that place of self-acceptance and self-love. As a healthy, fat 20-year-old woman I am tired of hearing people telling me how to dress for my “body type.” Like many fat women I am tired of hearing these things on behalf of people who have not lived a day in my shoes.

1) “You can’t wear shorts in the summer.”

Um, excuse me why wouldn't I wear shorts in the summer? It’s too hot to wear jeans and honestly if you don't like my legs in shorts feel free to look away.

2) “Cover up your boobs, you look slutty.”

Some people don't even have to say it, just with their looks they say it all. I’m sorry I was blessed with DD’s but covering them up will do nothing. They have to breathe too so stare away.

3) “Black clothes make you look slimmer, you should wear black more often.”

Possibly, but just because it might make me look slimmer doesn't mean I won’t wear other colors or patterns. Fat girls also deserve to dress fashionably.

4) “Don’t tuck in your shirt, it shows your belly.”

Haha. trust me I know it shows my belly but I honestly don't care and neither should you.

5) “Did you lose weight? You look skinnier.”

Nope, I’m pretty sure I still weight the same since last time you saw me and yet I feel amazing. So maybe next time just say hello?

6) “You should exercise or go on a diet.”

Oh yea, because I just sit on my butt all day long eating non-stop. Sorry, but being fat doesn't mean I have an unhealthy lifestyle.

7.) “Are you sure you want to eat that?”

Contrary to popular belief I don't eat fast-food everyday, so yes I’m pretty sure I wanna eat that.

8) “You don't eat much for a fat girl.”

I know you think I eat a whole pizza, five burgers, an entire cake, and a whole gallon of soda in one sitting but I actually don’t. Not all fat girls eat all day, we actually have lives you know?

9) “You have a pretty face… if only you lost some weight.”

Thank you but I don't need your approval. Didn't your momma teach you that if you don't have anything nice to say to not say anything at all?

10) “You’re not that fat.”

Thank you for reassuring me that I am not fat, but I am and telling me that I’m not makes you feel better not me.

Thank you fellow members of society, but I do not need your approval. It's my body and I decide everything about it. On behalf of all of the fat women in this world, we'd appreciate it if you stop judging us, controlling us, and telling us how to live our lives. We love ourselves and everything you say simply makes us stronger.

Haters gonna hate so just be yourself and make the world your own.

Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.

I was asked so many times why I wanted to go to a small school when a big university is so much better. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure a big university is great but I absolutely love going to a small school. I know that I miss out on big sporting events and having people actually know where it is. I can't even count how many times I've been asked where it is and I know they won't know so I just say "somewhere in the middle of Wisconsin." But, I get to know most people at my school and I know my professors very well. Not to mention, being able to walk to the other side of campus in 5 minutes at a casual walking pace. I am so happy I made the decision to go to school where I did. I love my school and these are just a few reasons why.
