A Farewell To The Old Me

Dear Old Me,

Hey, Hows it going? It has been awhile, but I am glad. So much has changed since you left, but it's all been for the better. New people, new adventures. Just a fresh start.

Thank you. Thank you for giving me the opportunity to be able to sit here today and say I learned a lesson. People say everything happens for a reason and I have never doubted that. Sometimes I just can't find the words to describe the ways you have changed. Others are so quick to say they don't know who you are, in the beginning you cared but now you don't. That is okay, because you are now living for you and that's what matters.

You once needed an explanation for why things happened the way they did and never just went with the flow of life. Now you understand that people are the way they are and life is the way it is and things happen and people change and there is nothing you can do about it.

Changing and becoming a new person brings so much light to your life because it gives you such a different outlook on things. You used to get angry at things that won't matter in 20 years. Today you just let it roll off your shoulder like it's nothing because in reality who really cares. Life is too short to let silly things bother you. The new people that you have met have done so much for you in such a short amount of time and have showed you what true friends are.

There was once a time that you trusted people way to easily and would do anything for them at the drop of a hat. You learned your lesson and you now know where to draw the line and you walk around with you guard up, questioning everyone and their purpose but sometimes that's not always a bad thing because if they are worth it they will stay. People can be cruel and unfortunately you learned that the hard way.

It was sad that you never saw how big this world really was and what it had to offer. You let people tell you what you could and couldn't do and control what was going on in your life. Now you have such an open mind and an open heart, control over what you do and you are ready to take on everything that life is going to bring to you.

But, here is farewell. I promise to never come back to you, you have taught me so much. Thank you for being the person that you were, there was nothing wrong with who you were because at a point in time you met great people and had some great relationships. Life works in mysterious ways, people change. Things won't always be the same.

Thank you for being a stepping stone in this big game we call life.

Love always,

The New and Improved

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

The best superpower ever? Being invisible of course. Imagine just being able to go from seen to unseen on a dime. Who wouldn't want to have the opportunity to be invisible? Superman and Batman have nothing on being invisible with their superhero abilities. Here are some things that you could do while being invisible, because being invisible can benefit your social life too.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
