Before we actually knew each other, we hated each other with a burning passion. I thought you were a boy-crazy party-goer who only wanted the worst things in life for yourself. You thought I was a girl who was loud, overly opinionated and judged everyone on appearance without thinking about what they actually might be like. We never in a million years thought that we would become friends, let alone become this close.
When I moved back to our school for the second half of our junior year, you sat behind me in my first period. You asked me questions about why I had moved in the first place and of course why I had moved back. I was a little wary answering these questions because I questioned whether or not I could trust you.
Boy, was I wrong.
A few weeks after we started talking, we decided to go to a soccer game together. We still didn't know much about each other, but figured this would be a way to talk outside of class. Well, standing in the pouring rain while watching our boys compete against their biggest rival definitely sealed the deal.
Over the next year, we learned every single thing we could possibly know about one another. You told me stories of when you lived in Kentucky and all about your crazy family who is still there, and I shared with you everything I could about my life's experiences. In this time, you became the best friend I never thought I'd have.
We've seen each other at our highest moments, and we've seen each other at absolute rock bottom. We've shared laugh after laugh about God only knows what. We've cried over boys, grades and almost everything else in the world.
At the beginning of this school year, we told ourselves that we had our lives after high school completely planned out. We had intentions of attending a school two and a half hours from home and we would room together. Well, now that we're actually at the end of the year, our plans have taken a 180-degree turn.
I decided that I wanted to be somewhere much smaller and definitely closer to home. You decided to take advantage of free schooling at the community college right up the road from where we live. As we take these opportunities we have been so graciously given and start this new chapter of our lives, I have some hopes and prayers you.
I hope that you never lose your sense of adventure.
I pray that you keep your head on straight.
I hope that you find your path in this world.
I pray that the path you find first is the right one for you.
I hope that you live life to the fullest in every way possible, and take every opportunity that comes you way, because you may never have a chance to do these things again.
I pray that you never forget me when you embark on whatever journey you choose.
