What It Is Like To Have A Dozen Brothers And Sisters

Transitioning from high school to college was a difficult task and I didn't think that I would be able to do it for quite some time. In the beginning, it was a very hard and emotional time. I went from being surrounded by my best friends and loved ones to living with complete strangers. Luckily for me, my roommate was one of my best friends from high school and I was able to quickly make a lot of wonderful friends who I wouldn't trade anything for in this entire world. I have only known these great people for about six months, yet I feel like I have known them my whole life.

One of my favorite things about my group of friends is that we all are so different. We come from every corner of the state and we have such diverse backgrounds. With all of our different life stories and experiences, I am constantly learning something new every day. I love being able to learn more and more about you guys and even occasionally opening up to you all as well. Never in my wildest dreams would I have imagined all of us becoming friends and, essentially, family. It feels as if I went from having one sibling to having 12.

Another special thing that I love about our "squad" is our nicknames for each other and the inside jokes that we have accumulated over time. Just to list a few, we have: The Chubby Twins, Bun & Glasses, Baby J, Miss Teen, Mother T, and Bulby. If other people were to hear our conversations, they would think that we were absolutely crazy and that is totally fine with me, considering that we kind of are.

In these very short six months, we have created a lifetime's worth of memories and adventures, from going to Walmart at 2:00 in the morning to having our very own talent shows when we're bored on Friday nights. Of course, we have also all gone through some things that just can't be mentioned in this article. Everything that we do makes all of our bonds so much stronger. It is crazy to think that we haven't even finished two semesters, yet we have done pretty much everything that you could imagine. I have no idea what these next three years will have in store, nor what crazy things we will get ourselves into.

Over time, we have done nothing but grow stronger and closer to one another. There are very few things that I think will be able to tear us all apart. We have gone through pretty much everything that a bunch of freshmen in college could have ever thought of going through. I wouldn't have wanted to create these bonds with anyone else. Although I don't always show it, I love all of you more than anything and I wouldn't have been able to survive college and all of the craziness without you.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
