Fall is in the Air

And it smells amazing.

Fall is in the Air

Fall is almost officially here, on September 22nd to be exact. It's almost unbelievable that summer is already over when it feels like 2017 just started. It's time to slip into a cozy sweater on Autumn's chilly nights with something pumpkin flavored and get ready for the season.

The season starts with apples and fallen leaves, brings in pumpkins and a cinnamon aroma of baked goods, and it doesn't end abruptly, but extends right into a cozy Winter with complementing ingredients. Well, it seems the first bells of Fall have rung with greens turning to reds and yellows, and now that Pumpkin Pie is Dairy Queen's Blizzard-of-the-Month. So before you blink and miss out on this wonderful season's joy, here's a list of things that will get you started with Autumn the right way.

1. Go on a walk to admire the changing colors and the earthy smell, and take a deep breath of the crisp air.

2. Break out the sweaters, scarves, hats and gloves. There's nothing better than being toasty on a windy Fall day.

3. Or heat up with warm apple cider or hot chocolate.

4. Go apple picking at an orchard, and make apple butter.

5. Go to a pumpkin patch where there's hay rides and corn mazes.

6. Carve pumpkins with your friends and family.

7. Do Fall crafts: paint a pumpkin, cover acorns with glitter or collect leaves and string them into a garland.

8. Then, decorate so the feeling of the season surrounds you.

9. Jump into a crunchy pile of leaves.

10. Bake something with Autumn's fresh and warm ingredients. There's pumpkins and apples, but pair them with spices, pecans, caramel and brown sugar.

11. If you're an adventurous cook, add pumpkins or squash to your ingredients list for dinner.

12. Make a costume to get ready for Halloween, it's never too early to start getting creative for the holiday.

13. Have a spooky night at a haunted house, or have a movie night with your favorite scary films.

14. Have a campfire with smore's and friends.

15. Finally, pie. It's the quintessence of Fall, so bake it, buy it, eat it; it doesn't matter what you do with it, just get a slice before the season ends!

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
