Ah yes, fall has come yet again. Rather than walking drenched in your own sweat, you get to walk down the streets crunching on leaves and smelling the aroma of fall bliss. It seems to be the season most are excited for. I can't think of one bad thing about autumn except for the starting of school, of course, but even that has its perks. Going out on the perfect fall day can cheer anyone up just on the beautiful, aesthetically pleasing scenery the season brings. So before we are walking around bundled up in five layers of winter jackets, let's enjoy every aspect of fall we can!
This time of the year can be a helpful time to reflect and a positive motivator to take on the challenges of what is to come. As hectic as it may seem for college students with all the classes starting and tasks building up, take a minute to breath in the crisp scent of earthed leaves as you walk to class in the morning. Let being in the autumn atmosphere serve as your after-school escape. The summer is just too hot, spring is much too wet, but fall is just right.
The beginning of the year is when all the change is happening: new classes, new clothes, new friends, new you. And the sanctity that fall brings should act as a relief for the stress and anxiety that is sure to build up. Taking a walk on a gloomy gray day with the contrast of leaves can be a great escape from reality. The air is light, the mood is calm, and it's a great time to just separate reality from your own little world for a bit.
It seems the excitement comes and goes with a snap of a finger. The football games are over before you know it, the pumpkin spice lattes are no longer in season, and our cute outfits turn into sweat pants and winter coats to defend ourselves from the cold. With everything fall has to offer in such a short amount of time, we have to take advantage of it.
October is the month to do it. The weather is near perfection, and the environment is in full effect with the leaves of all colors. Fall festivals with pumpkin patches and corn mazes are never too young for anyone while the spirit of Halloween can be kept alive through haunted hayrides and houses. This is the time to go the football games and cheer for your favorite team with a big mug of hot cider. Scenic walks and runs are relaxing and can put your mind at ease with all the busy work you know has to be done.
Trust me, once you start walking in the snow with -10 degrees of windchill, you'll be wishing for those mid-September days when you just needed a hoodie. The weather is cool, the air is crisp, and the overall season is perfect. Be sure to explore and enjoy autumn as it changes right in front of our eyes. There's so much to do with so little time before the dreaded snow comes, so go out and be fall!
