Most of us can agree that there is something special about the season of fall. As the long summer comes to an end the nation becomes swept up in fall colors, the cooler weather, and what seems to be pumpkin flavored everything. Year after year we celebrate this season - however with growing older you notice changes and differences from your experiences, as a kid to your new life as an adult.
As a child: Looking forward to the Fall Festival.
Bobbing for apples, corn mazes, pumpkin carving, and hot apple cider. What could be better than your school’s fall festival when you're a kid? Nothing.
As an adult: Looking forward to Homecoming.
Whether you’re an alumni or still a student, the most exciting event you’ll experience this season will probably be your school’s homecoming game. Drinking with your college friends while cheering on your team is now what you look forward to when fall approaches.
As a child: Playing in leaves.
I don’t know what was so fun about jumping into a pile of leaves our parents just raked, but I sure do miss it.
As an adult: Raking leaves.
Now we are the ones raking them… and by the time we get finished the only thing I’m jumping into is my bed.
As a child: Being excited about your Halloween costume.
As a kid you are always set on what you want to be for Halloween, most likely a month or two in advance. Your parents take you to the store to pick out your princess or power ranger costume and you’re set. And regardless of what you wear, people will still give you candy.
As an adult: Being stressed about your costume.
As an adult, having a Halloween costume is more like a competition of who will look the best. Whether you choose the funny or slutty route, a lot goes into your costume. From the makeup to the props, the simplicity that comes with choosing a Halloween costume as a kid is something that is missed.
As a child: Getting Booed.
I can remember the excitement of the neighborhood when Booing began. For those of you who are not familiar with what Booing is, someone begins it by putting together a little Halloween gift basket and anonymously dropping it off at a neighbor or friends home. Once someone has received it they hang the “We’ve been Booed” sign on their front door and then proceed to Boo someone who has not been Booed yet. This then continues around the neighborhood and is a great way to spread Halloween/Fall cheer.
As an adult: Getting Boozed.
Being Boozed is something that really need to be spread around because this is actually great. All the fun of being Booed that you experienced as a child, just catered to adults.
As a child: Trick or treating.
As an adult: Praying kids don’t ring your doorbell so you don’t have to get up and give them candy - because who wants to get up off the couch and give kids the candy you could be eating?
As a child: The excitement of seeing the Halloween Candy aisle.
It's a dentist's worst nightmare.
As an adult: The excitement of the return of Pumpkin-flavored item.
From PSL's to pumpkin flavored beer, whatever you can think of there is probably a pumpkin-flavored version and we're obsessed.
