If I told my younger self that I use Facebook just as much now (if not even more) than I used to, I wouldn't believe it. The majority of my middle school years were spent on Facebook. The constant update of my life in short sentences still haunt me to this day. If you want to really laugh at yourself, and possibly cry if we're being honest, look at your activity log and read all your old statuses. I don't constantly update my Facebook friends with my doings anymore, but I do frequently check the webpage multiple times per day.
Before college I didn't really think about how groups, clubs, organizations, etc. would communicate. It makes sense now that Facebook groups would be their go to. I was first introduced into the college Facebook revival by the one and only "Class of 2018" page. Every class has one and it is one of the best worst things that will happen to you in college. The frequent notifications get really annoying, but the funny jokes and endless banter will keep you entertained when you need a distraction.
After joining a sorority, checking Facebook becomes a daily to-do so you can stay up to date on all the happenings. I know many don't like the notifications caused by the various group pages you're added to, but I love them. It always gives me something to do when class gets a little boring. I never would have thought that I would be checking Facebook of all things to entertain myself.
After delving deeper into the year, I joined clubs and other organizations that in turn come with a Facebook group. At this point there are so many groups that a few more don't really hurt. The more the merrier, right? The one downside, though, is logging in to find a new notification and thinking it'll be something pertaining to you, but it isn't. It's usually for that group that you joined but never actually kept up with and you're just too lazy to leave.
My 13-year-old self would definitely look at me like I'm insane for using this site as much as I do five years later. To her I would say: college makes you do crazy things.
