There's a rumor going around that Facebook is adding a dislike button, and Mark Zuckerberg has confirmed that it's true. However, it won't be called a dislike button. It will be more like a sympathize button. Mark says that, "not every moment is a good moment," and therefore, the button would come in handy for times of death or crisis.
I'm really glad that there won't be a "dislike" button, because, as their intention would be for it to be used for bad situations, it would be used for other things. I can just see how much worse bullying will be. How someone's posts would have a bunch of dislikes, and they would feel like they didn't matter. How much self-esteem would go down because of all the "dislikes" on a person's picture. And Zuckerberg seems to agree with me. He said that a dislike button would not be a good thing, and so they aren't going to create it.
I think a sympathize button would be a good idea, because I always feel awkward "liking" a status about something bad that happened. And I never know if that person thinks that I mean that I'm supporting them, or that I like that that happened, when I like their post. I also feel like just a like doesn't do some things justice, but commenting blows up my notifications.
A sympathize button will have everyone feeling good about themselves at the end of the day, and will be a great way to show support for the people in our lives. I can't wait for this new addition to Facebook!
