Exploring The Underground Rave Revolution And Liberation

“People drowned in their sorrows and started going out and partying more.”

While the U.S. rages on with political chaos like the Black Lives Matter movement, the 2016 election, the Women's March and the Muslim Ban; other countries’ youth culture have turned to after-hours rave revolutions to deal with the stress.

Coming across a few documentaries on the subject of revolutions as a result of political upheaval, it was hard not to wonder if the American youth has the same fate as our neighbors from across the ocean.

Protesting against the chaos during the 2014 Ukranian revolution, the youth fled to the run-down and abandoned buildings to transform them into spaces where all their problems could disappear.

These spaces are more than just a place to escape, they're “markets for inspiration” where creativity and expression are able to flourish freely.

With the risk of being shut down by the police, the energy only gets even stronger as there is a sense of doing something forbidden. To them, it's just as much as an act of protestation and a middle finger up against the corrupted government.

So from dusk until dawn, crowds of people are driven by the upbeat tempos and soul shaking bass of the underground raves as they dance and sweat away their worries.

Meanwhile in Glasglow, Scotland, the underground party scene is just as strong.

After the unfortunate defeat for Scottish independence and the unresolved standing of Brexit Britain (an abbreviation for "British exit," which refers to the June 23, 2016, referendum whereby British citizens voted to exit the European Union), the “rallied culture- hungry youth” decided to take their ignored cries and pent up energy out and partied.

“Intellect, outspoken, and politically active”, they reacted against society through their ingenuity and started throwing parties in underground spaces too.

These are more than just your average parties, they mean something greater. With private invitations and secret locations, they bring in diverse groups of young minds driven for change that know that “creativity can only exist through collaboration” and it all starts with a party.

I thought senioritis in high school was rough until I became a college senior about to go into the real world. I'm supposed to have everything figured out, right? College is filled with many things, and we're so often lectured to make the right decisions as we head out on our own into the college life. But sometimes it's necessary to indulge in some guilty pleasures as well as just doing things because you can. And honestly, a lot of the time it's inevitable. College is no piece of cake that's for sure, so it's okay to do some things you deep down know you shouldn't....once in a while anyways.
