I love nature. I love forests that smell of kicked up dirt and mountains where you have to earn the view. But I’ve also grown to love cities.
Some of the best things are the things you search for, explore, absorb open-heartedly, or find. Even though it may not smell as fresh or sound as peaceful, exploring a new city can be just as exhilarating.
Look out at the sea of people you pass. It’s equally stunning and overwhelming to comprehend that every one of them has their own individual story that they’re living out. They may be having the best day of their lives or the worst. Maybe they noticed you, had a passing thought about the coat you’re wearing, or something about you caught their eye just enough for them to not to group you together with the hundreds of other strangers they’ve passed today.
Notice the skyline. See how similar it is to every other city you’ve been to. Watch as you get closer and the buildings become individualized, maybe even unique, with different heights and colors creating each gigantic structure.
Stare out the car window, look around instead of down as you walk through the streets, and really take in the different smells. Exploring a new city can be so much more than just hitting up the trendy stores you pass.
Indulge in the food you eat. Get coffee three separate times in three different shops, all in the span of one day.
Walk down streets and window shop. Look up at the sky, which is so separate and tranquil compared to the chaos around you.
See the art that might be hidden on the sidewalks or the backside of a building. Think about how there are different people in different clothes with different destinations in mind.
Find the uniqueness of the city. It’s easy to become caught up in the commercial aspect but once you find the simple among the clutter, you can fully appreciate and enjoy where you are and all that’s in front of you.
