An exploration and analysis of the misclassified drugs of LSD and psilocybin mushrooms

When we think of psychedelics, we think of psilocybin mushrooms—or 'shrooms—and LSD, or acid. A slight disclaimer here is that I am not recommending or promoting the use of these drugs, merely giving the facts and the experience that can be tapped into based on my research.

When we think of psychedelics, we think of bad things immediately because they are classified as drugs. Now when we dig deeper into these substances, we can see that based on records there have been no overdoses when using these substances. That’s particularly interesting, because when we look at the issues with alcohol, we see that 2.5 million people die every year from alcohol related instances, including alcohol poisoning. And yet, alcohol is still not classified as an illegal substance, while 'shrooms and LSD are. Also, the negatives of alcohol and the possibility of addiction and dependence to alcohol is much greater than that of 'shrooms or LSD.

In fact, if you take 'shrooms or LSD every single day, you will begin to develop a tolerance to any dosage and therefor will no longer experience the psychedelic reaction to the drug. However, if you did the same with alcohol, you would eventually develop a strong addiction to it and would have countless bodily issues.

Now, I’ll leave the actual numbers out of this article and leave it up to you to find those. Here are some fun facts for you:

Steve Jobs came up with the idea for the iPhone while influenced by LSD
Francis Crick discovered that DNA was a double helix after a long trip on LSD
Bill Gates, an incredibly rich entrepreneur and investor, would not be the innovator he has been without LSD.

These are just a few on a long list of famous individuals that have gone through the experiences of LSD and psilocybin mushrooms. Every single one of these individuals said that after they took either drug, it changed their lives for the better.

What do these substances do? Upon taking psilocybin, most will experience a 20-minute period of feeling fantastic where you begin to see motion, time, and in absolute high-definition. Everything becomes more defined and you start to relax as your ego emerges. After the 20-minute mark, the trip usually begins. This is where you begin to see your memories and emotions. At the same time, you see the world without your brain filtering what comes through your eyes.

With LSD, most will start to see geometric shapes in various colors moving through their field of view. However, both of these substances will give you the same overall experience. You begin to see cues via images that represent your repressed feelings that have been stored within your ego.

This is the point in time where you begin to have realizations and you experience every emotion possible. This is the point where people have the life changing experiences. In very high doses, when you reach the peak of the trip, you experience something called ego death where it really feels as if you are dying.

These substances should not be abused, but only used if you feel as if you want or need a spiritual realization in a sense and really feel connected to the real world. Again, I do not condone, recommend, nor have I ever experienced these substances. I am only reporting the facts through the research I have gained. I’ve been very curious as to why alcohol isn’t classified as an illegal drug, but psilocybin mushrooms are illegal and are natural substances unlike alcohol.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
