Life can be difficult in many different ways. There are certain points in everyone's lives that are hard to get through. I've shared some of these moments below in some of my original haiku. I encourage you to read them with an open mind, slowly, and more than once. Think about your life experiences, your childhood, the present, and the future. I hope you can connect to them in a way that makes you feel something deep--that is what haiku is all about. Simply reflect!
Mid-August
Power bill
Skyrockets
The air
Closes in
And traps my breath
This highway
Worn and C r A c K e D
Resembles my heart
a crutch
my tears he catches
with his smile
in the abyss
(life)
you throw me a rope
driving by
a woman with her belongings
in a brown paper bag
at the mall for more clothes
I wiz by a man
asking for pocket change
Little Eddie
wears that same holey shirt
Monday thru Friday
head pounding
lightning strikes
when you speak to me
swallowing the happy memories
to escape the trap
of being sucked back in
waiting in the frigid fluorescent room
to hear the news
we all dread for dad
girls night out—
praying this time
I can keep down some measly saltines
my fingers
scorched
when I reach to you for help
laying on my dented pillow
I sweep my palm
over the void in my bed
pulling my blankets up
to shield me
yet another night of pain
breathe
saw you again today
breathe
wondering
if you are looking too
he leans in
to hear Thank You
as she takes her last breath
flashing red and blue
mom
please wake up
scrolling through pictures
stretches the hole in my heart
gone too soon
bawling
she clutches the pink baby blanket
she won’t need it anymore
family café
where everybody knows your name
foreclosed
my shoes so snug
until today
don’t know myself anymore
